If you read my review of the NYX Buttermelt Bronzer, you’ll understand why I was so excited to try its sister product – the Buttermelt Blush.
Powder blushes have taken a bit of a back seat in my makeup routine. It’s all about cream and liquid formulas for me at the moment.
But the NYX Buttermelt Blush has drawn in such positive reviews that it would be remiss of me not to try it!
I remember seeing this launch in the US and waiting longingly for it to make its way over the pond. But now it seems to be popping up in stores all over the place, so I thought it was about time to try it and share my thoughts.
I’ll be reviewing the pigmentation, the way it feels on the skin, how it applies and how long it lasts. If you’re keen to learn a little more about this blush, keep reading!
What is NYX Buttermelt Blush?
Powered by mango, almond and shea butter, NYX’s Buttermelt Blush is probably the creamiest powder blush formula you’ll ever experience.
Smooth and buttery, this blush is meant to glide onto the skin… and pretty much stay there for the next 12 hours.
With intense colour payoff and a fade- and transfer-resistant finish, it delivers long-lasting colour that’ll keep you looking fresh all day and well into the evening.
Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that it’s vegan and cruelty-free too!
Packaging
NYX’s Buttermelt Blush comes in pretty much the same packaging as their Buttermelt Bronzer: a flat, rectangular compact that has a flip-up lid.
There’s no mirror in the lid, but (due to the delicate nature of the product) you might not be taking this on the go much anyway.
My blush was fortunately in tact when it arrived but I have seen plenty of unboxings where the product has crumbled before people have even had a chance to try it!
Shades & swatches
This blush currently comes in 15 different shades, a pretty good selection which I think would suit a variety of skin types. From cool pinks and deep berry hues to shimmery corals and vivid purples, NYX has got pretty much every base covered.
I picked up the shade 02 Butta Together which is a soft baby pink. I was initially concerned that it wouldn’t show up very much on my skin but I very pleasantly surprised. It’s a light colour but it still manages to pack a punch, check out how it swatches below…

Application
This blush couldn’t be easier to use. I’d normally apply a powder blush with a large, fluffy brush, and this method works well with the Buttermelt Blush too.
Because the powder is so fine, it disperses nice and evenly over the cheeks. It doesn’t cling or stick in random areas, and there’s no harsh lines or streaks.
The product is quite crumbly though, so you do get a lot of kick-up when you swipe the brush (not quite as much as you do with the bronzer I should add!).
Because it’s quite a creamy formula, I thought I might try something I don’t usually do with powder blush – apply it with my fingers. And, actually, it works pretty well. You can pat the product in and blend it out to a soft, smooth finish.
Pigmentation
The last powder blush I used was ROM&ND’s Better Than Cheek which, while lovely and blurring, doesn’t have the best colour payoff. You have to go in quite a few times to build it up.
Imagine my surprise, then, when I brushed on the NYX Buttermelt Blush and actually had to rub some of the product away!
This is incredibly pigmented for a powder blush, and you only really need to go in with a very light dusting to get the colour you want.
I definitely suggest building it up slowly, tapping off product and buffing it into the back of your hand before applying it to your face. This helps soften the intensity a little.
Texture, feel & finish
NYX gave these blushes the name ‘Buttermelt’ for a reason. They’re a lot creamier than your traditional powder blush formula.
As I mentioned when I reviewed the bronzer, the powder almost turns into a butter when it hits the skin. You can glide your fingers over the product in the pan and it doesn’t feel chalky or dry – it’s soft and velvety.
Not only does this mean it applies really nicely (whether you use a brush or your fingertips), it also means that it feels very comfortable and looks natural on the skin.
Scent
This blush has a mild beachy/summery scent with hints of vanilla and coconut. It’s not overpowering by any means, and I can only really smell it in the pan. Once it’s on my face, the scent disappears.

Wear time
Powder products can often be hit or miss when it comes to wear time. Generally, I find that they fade a lot quicker than cream or liquid formulas, and require more frequent top ups.
That’s not the case with this NYX pressed powder blush though. The Buttermelt formula has incredible longevity (which is also helped by how pigmented it is!).
If I apply this in the morning before work, it’s still very much there when I get home. No touch ups needed!
Where to buy it
You can buy NYX’s Buttermelt Blush from a whole bunch of beauty retailers. They have it in Boots, Cult Beauty and LOOKFANTASTIC.
You can also order this directly from the NYX website or pick it up in Ulta.
Final thoughts: Is the NYX Buttermelt Blush worth buying?
The NYX Buttermelt Blush is the best powder blush I’ve tried in a long time. It’s creamy, blendable and, most importantly, intensely pigmented. I suggest going in with a light hand!
When it comes to wear time, it also nails that too. This blush lasts all day, and looks as good at the end as it does at the start. I hardly ever get that with a powder blush – most have faded within a couple of hours!
For a product that’s under £10, I 100% think this is worth it.
Why you’ll love it (and why you might not)
pros
- Really buttery formula – just glides onto the skin
- Long-lasting wear – it really does live up to those 12 hour claims!
- Subtle, summery scent
- Intense pigmentation
- Seamless application
- Vegan and cruelty-free
cons
- A little crumbly in the pan
- Prone to breaking so not great for travel
