Moisturisers don’t always feel like the most exciting skincare product, but I often find they’re the one that makes the biggest difference!
A rich cream in the winter can stop even the driest skin from flaking, while a lightweight summer lotion keeps your skin hydrated without clogging pores or causing excess shine.
With warmer weather on the way, I’ve been reaching for those lighter, gel-type creams a lot lately. I want my skin to feel adequately nourished, but I don’t want it to feel overloaded. Something non-sticky and breathable – that’s exactly what I look for in a summer moisturiser!
One moisturiser that ticks those boxes for me is the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream. Previously known as the Joseon Beauty Cream, it was the first product the brand ever launched… and it’s still one of their bestsellers.
I’ve had this cream in my collection for a while now, and I feel like it’s time to give it the love it deserves!
I always forget to shine a spotlight on my everyday staples, so I want to start a new series where I do exactly that. And there’s no better place to start than with a Beauty of Joseon cult favourite.
Keep reading to find out what makes the Dynasty Cream worth buying, what it feels like on the skin and where you can buy it.
What is the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream?
Beauty of Joseon’s Dynasty Cream is a lightweight moisturiser which kind of sits somewhere between a gel and a lotion.
It’s non-scented with a moderately dewy finish – perfect for skin that can sometimes look dull and dry.
Powered by ingredients like Rice Bran Water, Ginseng, Squalane, and Niacinamide, this cream is designed to hydrate the skin while also balancing sebum production.
It’s completely cruelty-free, as are the brand’s other products. However, it’s not considered vegan since it contains honey.

Key ingredients
As a Korean skincare brand, Beauty of Joseon is well-known for incorporating traditional Hanbang ingredients into its products, and the Dynasty Cream is no exception. We’ve got:
- Rice Bran Water – Packed with amino acids, this ingredient brightens and hydrates the skin.
- Ginseng Root Water – Protects against sun damage and improves elasticity.
- Squalane – Has moisturising and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Niacinamide – A great all-rounder. It strengthens the skin barrier, calms the skin and improves hyperpigmentation.
Packaging
For such an affordable cream, the packaging is surprisingly fancy… but you wouldn’t really know it at first glance.
The product comes in an unassuming white cardboard box with not much else but the ingredients list on. It’s only when you open the box that it starts to feel like a bit more luxe.
The jar is made from sturdy, frosted glass, and wrapped in a delicate piece of white hanji paper. I love how this nods to the Joseon Dynasty, giving the product a beautifully traditional feel.
It’s exactly what Beauty of Joseon does best – blending cultural heritage with modern skincare.

Texture & finish
Beauty of Joseon’s Dynasty Cream is exactly my kind of moisturiser. It’s got that fresh, cooling feel when you apply it, but it doesn’t feel sticky like some gel moisturisers do.
It absorbs into the skin nicely (and pretty quickly). It also plays well with any sunscreen or makeup products you apply on top. There’s no separating or pilling here!
I love that it gives the skin a plump, glass-like effect. It’s one of those products that can make even the most tired skin look healthy and dewy.
Application
I’m not always a fan of moisturisers in jars. When I’m tired before bed, or in a rush in the morning, I usually reach for a cream in a tube. You don’t have to spend time fussing about unscrewing a lid and it takes less than 30 seconds to apply.
BUT Beauty of Joseon does try to make the application of their Dynasty Cream as painless as possible by including a little spatula for you to use.
This creates a little less mess at least!
The brand recommends a pea-sized amount (or less than that) for oily and acne-prone skin types. Other skin types are instructed to use a coin-sized amount.
Price & where you can buy it
A 50ml jar of the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream usually retails for somewhere between £12 – £21, depending on where you buy it.
A 100ml version has also been released, and this is about £30. So it’s definitely worth getting the bigger size if you’ve tested it and you’re sure you like it. The double size comes in a tube (rather than a jar) – something to also consider when it comes to buying.
In the UK, you can order this cream from places like LOOKFANTASTIC, Boots or Superdrug.
On an international level, you can grab this from Sephora, Yesstyle or Stylevana.

Why you’ll love it (and why you might not)
pros
- Lightweight formula
- Dewy yet non-sticky finish
- Fragrance-free and alcohol-free
- Good value for money
- Sits nicely under makeup
cons
- May not be hydrating enough for very dry skin (or those in colder climates)
Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream: Is it worth buying?
If you have fussy skin, and you’re looking for something simple that won’t irritate or upset it, I really recommend the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream.
It’s lightweight but moisturising enough to prevent your skin from feeling tight or uncomfortable.
For those worried about breakouts, this doesn’t feel heavy or greasy either. It absorbs nicely and feels really breathable.
My skin is acne-prone and this is a moisturiser I know I can rely on. I hope it works just as well for your skin too!
