Puma Cali Sport Trainers in Sage Green

Nike’s iconic Air Force 1s are probably the most versatile white trainers on the market. They’re well-designed, extremely comfortable and, best of all, they never go out of style. As someone who loves a simple, reliable shoe, I regularly have to stop myself from slipping these on every time I head out the door!

The beauty of the Air Force 1s is that they go with just about anything. You can dress them up with cute skirt or midi dress, or keep it casual with jeans and shorts.

I love my Nike Air Force 1s and I feel like every wardrobe could do with a pair. But, understandably, not everyone wants to buy something that half the world already owns. And even if you do own a pair, it’s definitely fun to switch it up every now and again!

So, here are seven Air Force 1 alternatives that can be styled in the same way as the original pair.

About Nike’s Air Force 1

Released in 1982, Nike’s Air Force 1 started life as a basketball shoe. It was the first of its kind to feature the brand’s innovative Air technology and it also incorporated the supportive back heel of Nike’s Approach hiking boots.

It wasn’t long before the shoe started gaining popularity outside of the basketball court, and by 1985 it was a mainstay in the lifestyle space.

What makes Nike’s Air Force 1s so iconic?

Before we explore some Air Force 1 alternatives, let’s dive into what makes this classic shoe so popular in the first place:

  • White colourway – Nike’s Air Force 1 does come in other colours (black is a pretty popular pick too), but the all-white colourway is no doubt the bestseller. A simple white trainer is super versatile and so easy to style.
  • Chunky silhouette – The thick rubber sole not only makes this shoe really comfortable to wear, but also gives it a bold, retro look.
  • Nike Air technology – This hidden feature (you won’t be able to see it unless you cut the shoe open) offers bounce and cushioning which helps absorb impact and prevent joint pain.
  • Roomy toe box – Lots of space for your feet to move about and breathe.

7 Great Nike Air Force 1 Alternatives

Puma Cali Court

These trainers are a solid choice for those who love a platform sole. They’re slightly chunkier than the Air Force 1’s but maintain the same sleek silhouette.

These come in a bunch of different styles with various accent colours and patterns, so you’re sure to find a pair that suits your vibe. A great alternative if statement trainers are your thing!

Nike Court Vision

If you’re looking for something a little less chunky than the Air Force 1s, you need to pick up a pair of Court Visions! These shoes still have the classic Nike branding, but they’re much lighter and slimmer.

The body of the shoe is quite similar to that of the Air Force 1s, but the thin sole gives them a completely different feel.

Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that these are quite a bit cheaper than the AF1s too!

Veja Campo ChromeFree Leather

This Veja pair is one of the more expensive Air Force 1 alternatives on this list. However, given that the brand uses eco-friendly materials to produce these shoes, I think the higher price is justified for the sustainability value.

I absolutely adore this white natural pair. The muted colour palette means that – despite being a pair of trainers – they can still look really sophisticated and classy when dressed up the right way.

Puma Mayze Classic

Like the Puma Cali Courts, the Mayze Classic trainers have a super chunky platform – perfect if you’re looking for something that’s going to stand out and make a statement.

Despite the thick sole, these are quite light and comfortable to move around in and make a great Air Force 1s alternative.

These Adidas trainers are pretty similar to their Nike counterpart. And, while they do come in a range of colours and designs, it’s this all-white version that’s going to give you that Air Force 1 look. So, if you’re someone who prefers the way Adidas shoes fit, this might be the perfect alternative.

These shoes are tennis inspired, so they’re going to feel a bit more soft and flexible than the Air Force 1s. Despite this, the leather upper still provides a good amount of support and the soles are pretty hard-wearing.

The white/green combo is perhaps the most classic (or most popular) Club C 85 style. But these come in a bunch of other colours too … red, yellow, blue … you name it!

New Balance 480 Trainers

The New Balance 480s trainers are a classic. And, unlike many of the other Air Force 1 alternatives listed in this post, you’ll notice that these are not quite as chunky.

The plain white colourway is obviously the most similar to Nike’s Air Force 1s. However, I think a green (or even navy blue) pair would add the perfect pop of colour to a simple, monochrome outfit.

New Balance is all about durability and comfort so your feet are in safe hands with this pair!

Which Nike Air Force 1 alternatives would you wear? Let me know in the comments!
