Like many people, I’m always looking for ways to simplify my makeup routine. Whether that means finding ‘lazy girl’ products to save me time in the morning, or shopping for items that mean I don’t need to reapply my makeup quite as much.
And when it comes to products that require constant top-ups, lip liner is one of the biggest offenders. One minute you’ve got the perfect outline, the next it’s smudged, faded, or nowhere to be seen.
The solution? A lip stain that doubles as a lip liner, keeping that crisp lip line in place for hours.
Enter Sacheu’s Peel Off Lip Liner STAY-N.
This lip stain had a viral moment a while back when Billie Eilish used it in a GRWM video before one of her shows.
It looked great when she first applied it, but what really had me sold was how good it still looked hours later. Seeing how well it held up was enough to persuade me to add it to my basket. Here’s how it worked for me….
What is the Sacheu Peel Off Lip Liner STAY-N?
It’s important to clarify that this isn’t your traditional pencil lip liner. Sacheu’s lip STAY-N is a liquid formula that resembles the lip tints we already know and love… but with a bit of a twist. You have to remove the product to get the full effect!
The idea is that you apply the stain, wait ten minutes or so, then peel off the film to reveal the colour underneath.
You’re left with a traced-out lip line that (supposedly) doesn’t need to be touched up during the day, and the smudge-proof finish means that – once it’s set – this lip stain isn’t going to smear or budge.
Apply your favourite lip balm or gloss over the top, and you’re good to go!
Packaging
This lip stain comes in a thin metal tube and almost looks like a mascara at first glance. The shade is indicated by a thin band of colour around the bottom, plus a tiny sticker at the base.
I quite like the simplicity of the packaging, it actually feels pretty luxurious for the price. But I do find it a little hard to tell the shades apart when I’m in a rush and looking to quickly grab the colour I want.

Shades & swatches
The Sacheu Peel Off Lip Liner STAY-N currently comes in 12 shades. The warmer, more neutral shades tend to be most popular, but there are also a couple of brighter purple, corals and pinks for those who like something a bit more punchy.
I wanted to test a few of these shades out so I bought the Bestseller Bundle when it was on offer in Boots. The set comes with three shades (which I’ve swatched below):
- p-INKED – A warm rose
- MUAH-ve – An earthy mauve
- HEY-zel – A rich brown
HEY-zel is meant to be the darkest shade but for some reason it showed up lighter than MUAH-ve. You’ll see from another swatch later on in this review that I struggled to get HEY-zel to apply evenly – it was really hard to get the colour to stick with this one!

Application
The Sacheu Peel Off Lip Liner STAY-N isn’t just a one step process, so it helps to leave yourself some extra time in the morning to get this applied. Here’s how you can get best results:
STEP 1: On clean, dry lips, trace around the lip line. Don’t apply a balm, oil or gloss beforehand as this can interfere with how the stain performs.
STEP 2: Wait 10-15 minutes.
STEP 3: Once the film has dried, slowly peel it off to unveil the stain underneath.
STEP 4: Wear it by itself or apply a glossy lip product over the top.
As with most lip stains, the Sacheu liner comes with a doe foot applicator. The wand is quite long though, which makes it a little tricky to keep a steady hand and get those clean, straight lines.
Pigmentation
I’m pretty happy with how two of the shades, MUAH-ve and p-INKED, appear on my lips. There’s just enough of a tint to create that traced effect, but not so much that it’s a harsh, unblendable line.
10 minutes is more than enough time for me to notice a difference. I don’t like to leave it on for much longer than this otherwise it can look a little odd against my natural lips.
Unfortunately, though, HEY-zel can be a bit hit or miss. It’s dark in patches and then the colour doesn’t take in others. Each time I applied it, the colour came out differently!

Texture, feel & finish
How this lip liner sits on the skin is all down to prep. The product contains Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E, but I don’t necessarily think this helps keep the lips moisturised – especially if you’re applying such a small amount around the outside.
I recommend exfoliating your lips just before applying this liner, or using a lip mask (I’ve got a whole post on Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask dupes if you’re interested) the night before. You’ll want to make sure any product is thoroughly wiped off before you apply the Sacheu lip liner though.
If your lips are dry or chapped, the Sacheu stain will just sink into creases and look patchy, so I definitely recommend spending some time making sure your lips are soft and moisturised before applying.
Staying power
The brand claims that this lip stain is designed to last all day, but the wear time wasn’t nearly that long for me.
I found that the product could be wiped away pretty easily with just a cloth and some water. And while there was a slight stain left behind, it wasn’t nearly as intense or long-lasting as some Korean lip tint formulas I’ve tried. Some of those have stained my skin for days, and that’s with lots of scrubbing!
Realistically, I’d say the Sacheu lip stain lasts a couple of hours before it needs reapplying. That’s not too bad, but it doesn’t really surpass the wear time of a regular lip liner.
I was expecting a little more longevity given the extra effort it takes to apply it.

Value for money
The Sacheu Peel Off Lip Liner currently retails for £14 ($14), which I feel is reasonable for this type of product. It sits on the pricier end of the drugstore makeup spectrum (at least in the UK it does), but it’s affordable for most people.
The deals on the bundles are also pretty good too.
If you’re undecided on the shade you want, or you know you want to try a couple, a three pack of Sacheu’s bestselling lip stain shades is £35 ($35).
Where to buy it
You can order this lip stain directly from the Sacheu website. US shipping is free on orders over $50. They also offer international shipping, the price of which differs depending on your location.
If you’re in the US you can also order this from Ulta or Revolve. In the UK, you can grab this from Boots.

Final thoughts: Is the Sacheu Peel Off Lip Liner STAY-N Review worth buying?
Despite the faff of applying it, I do get quite a lot of wear out of this lip liner. It’s not an everyday product for me, but if I know I’m going to be out and about and I won’t have time to check and fix my makeup, a stain like this comes in pretty handy.
Once you get over the learning curve, it becomes slightly easier to achieve those straight, non-shaky lines. And figuring out how long to leave it on your lips for your desired colour intensity helps too.
It hasn’t replaced my traditional lip liners but it’s a fun product to add into the mix.
