The warm weather can’t come soon enough and I, for one, am super excited to reveal my new spring wardrobe to the world. Since the start of lockdown 3.0, I’ve been buying bits here and there in the hope that I’d finally be able to wear them outside. And it’s looking like I might actually be able to!
Versatility-wise, spring is the best season. You can still wear all the sweaters and coats you bought for winter, you just need to incorporate a few lighter, more summery items into your collection too.
This is where this post comes in.
I’ve narrowed down my 2021 spring wardrobe essentials into this compact list to make your seasonal shopping a little easier. Here are just a few trends that I love and will no doubt be wearing this spring …
1. Tie Front Cardigan

Tie front cardigans are perfect for spring. If it’s too hot to wear a jumper, but equally too cold for a cami, this in an amazing in-between.
My favourite is the Urban Outfitters Noori Fluffy Tie-Front Top – it’s just so soft and snuggly. I love it! For a slightly more affordable option, try this dupe from H&M or this one from Nasty Gal.
It can be tricky to wear them on their own, so I’d recommend styling them over a dress or pairing them with a plain bandeau.
2. Wide-Leg Jeans

2021 is definitely the year of the flares, and I’m living for it. Keep it simple with a classic blue pair or go for something really out there like these heart patterned ones.

3. Milkmaid Dress

Floral dresses for spring are pretty standard, but the milkmaid trend takes it to a whole new level. I’m not exaggerating (ok, maybe I am a little) when I say that this House of CB Tallulah Midi Dress is the prettiest thing that I’ve ever seen. If only it weren’t so expensive …
For something more within our price range, I’d go with the Princess Polly Back To Paris Mini Dress. It has the same floral pattern and ruffled neckline, it’s just a bit shorter. I love the pastel pink and the daisy print so this is totally calling my name.
4. Denim Overshirt

Much like the tie front cardigan, this is an excellent transitional layer. Opt for a pastel or patterned overshirt to make nailing the double denim look a little easier.
The Monki Jenny Striped Shirt is a personal favourite of mine, as is this dusky pink shirt from Mango.
5. Cardigan Co-ord

This is one of my favourite spring 2021 trends. The cardi and cami co-ord has long been a winner for the warmer months, but now we’re going to see this expanding into bandeaus, bralettes, corsets etc.
Princess Polly has some really cute patterned sets – like this one. New Look also has an amazing selection of neutral co-ords to choose from.
6. Boyfriend/Dad Shirt

Slouchy shirts are a spring staple. If you don’t yet have one, now is the time to invest!
These are great for dressing up or down. During the day you can leave it unbuttoned with a vest top underneath, and at night this looks great styled with a French tuck and some chunky gold jewellery.
7. Panelled Trench Coat

It might be getting warmer, but we haven’t reached those sweltering summer temps quite yet. Spring fashion is all about layering so make sure to stock up on some longline coats to get you through the cool nights.
A trench is perfect for this. It’s warm and protective without being too bulky or heavy. You can’t go wrong!
Achieve those spring vibes by opting for a panelled/spliced trench coat which is a bit more fun and playful.
8. Lightweight Blazer

Blazers are going to be everywhere this spring. Cropped or long – we’re going to be wearing it all.
Muted colours and pastels will be ruling the trend so keep your eye out for these. This River Island Relaxed Pistachio Blazer hits the nail right on the head.
9. High Neck Vest

It wouldn’t be an accurate list of spring wardrobe essentials without some kind of vest top. For 2021, racer and high neck tanks will be all the rage, so it might be worth buying this style in a few different colours.
High neck vest tops are super versatile, and can be worn either on their own or underneath your shirt/overshirt. Pair this with some wide-leg jeans and your casual, effortlessly chic spring look is complete.
10. Backless Top

Open-back tops were big in winter, but their popularity is about to soar this spring.
This fluffy cropped t-shirt from Bershka is my favourite take on this trend – I think it looks really cute and flattering. It’s also doesn’t feel too flashy to wear during the day.
11. Satin Blouse

For evening events, or even just formal daywear, a satin blouse looks très chic.
Balloon sleeves are making their way back in this season so why not go for something like this. Or, if statement sleeves aren’t really your thing, try this satin drawstring blouse instead.
