During the winter months, it often feels like we have to make a choice between being fashionable or keeping warm. I’m definitely guilty of throwing on as many layers as I can so that the cold has no chance of getting through my clothes.
Of course, this does work. But it also creates extra bulkiness, and if we’re not careful we could end up looking like the Michelin Man. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not really the look we’re going for!
Good insulation starts with choosing a good mid-layer, something that traps in the heat without adding unnecessary weight or thickness.
Knitwear is my go-to for this. It’s soft, warm and versatile – basically everything you could want under your coat.
Naturally, I’ve rounded up my favourite knitwear pieces of the moment so you can stay as cozy and comfortable as possible this winter. Enjoy!
1. Mango Multi-Coloured Knit Sweater £35.99

Multicoloured jumpers are really in for 2021. This one, in particular, caught my eye because of the pastels. Baby blue and baby pink together are a dream!
I really love the puffed sleeves and the oversized fit. The staggered overlap of the two colours is just so different as well.
I’ll definitely be adding this to my shopping bag!
2. Vintage Supply Scenic Knit £48

Despite seeing this jumper everywhere on Pinterest, I could not for the life of me find it real life. After spending (what felt like) hours searching for this piece on Google, I finally tracked it down! Yayyyy!
It’s from a brand that I actually hadn’t heard of before – Vintage Supply. Having browsed through their website though, I can safely say I will be buying from them in future.
They have some really unique pieces and most of their clothes are made from deadstock fabric. I love an environmentally-conscious brand so I’m really excited to see what else they come out with!
Edit Feb 2024: Unfortunately it looks like Vintage Supply are no longer operating.
3. NA-KD Chunky Cable Knitted Sweater £21.95

This NA-KD cable knit sweater is such good value, and the quality looks incredible.
I love that the sleeves are slightly flared and that the shoulders are dropped. It gives the jumper a really slouchy and interesting fit.
I have far too many brown and beige sweaters in my wardrobe, so something bright like this would be a welcome addition.
4. New Look Off-White Floral Embroidered Fluffy Knit Cardigan £13.79

Coordinated cardigan-vest sets are always a good choice. I’m sorry, I don’t make the rules.
Unfortunately, you have to buy this New Look cardigan and bralette separately. But that’s not a massive deal when you look at the price!
It’s on sale at the moment so I’m sure this will be flying off the rails in no time. I mean, who could resist the fluffiness?! It just looks so soft!
5. ASOS DESIGN Oversized Knitted Jumper With Cloud Design In Lilac £35

Ok, I did find this jumper in the men’s section, but I reckon it would 100% work for us girls as well. We’d probably just need to size down (or not, if you like the baggy look)!
The cloud design is so so adorable and I’m in love with the pastel ribbed knit. It’s a winning combination really!
6. Skinny Dip Cloud Cropped Cardigan and Vest Set £40

If you’re not really into the whole oversized trend, I think this would be an amazing alternative to the lilac ASOS jumper. The pattern is sooo similar, but the style is completely different.
What I like about this set is that you don’t necessarily have to wear both pieces together. Since they’re not attached, you can switch up your outfit and experiment with different looks super easily.
7. Lazy Oaf Lazy Daisy Knitted Jumper £85

I’m a sucker for a simple black sweater, so I just had to include this one in my list of winter knitwear pieces.
The daisy makes it for me. It’s a fairly basic design but I like the way it stands out against the body of the jumper. It’s bright without being too in your face – the perfect amount of playfulness.
8. NAKD Ribbed Knitted Turtleneck Side Slit Sweater £35.95

To end on a slightly more neutral note, this NA-KD ribbed sweater is the perfect piece to add to your winter capsule collection.
It’s the kind of thing that will go with basically anything in your wardrobe – provided that you’re aiming for a cool, brown-toned look.
The chunky turtleneck is ideal for keeping you warm in the colder months and the side split is so handy. It means you can play around with your outfit a bit more, and makes it way easier to achieve that much-desired French tuck. Tan France would be so proud!
