If you’re a TikTok addict like me, you’ve probably seen the hydrocolloid bandage hack all over your FYP. If not, I’ll quickly explain!
The method is as follows.
After washing your face, place hydrocolloid plasters over any problems areas on your skin. Leave these patches on overnight and, when they’re removed in the morning, the inflammation will be significantly reduced, if not completely gone!
The idea behind this being that the bandage will draw out any fluid or bacteria underneath and bring all active spots to a head.
Not bad for something that is essentially a blister plaster!
So why use a specially-designed acne sticker?
There’s no doubt that hydrocolloid bandages do the job. But, there are tonnes of products on the market that can speed up this process and do it waaay more efficiently.
Most zit stickers contain additional ingredients, like salicylic acid, that further help to soften and diminished unwanted spots.
Plus, pimple patches are far less noticeable if you ever need to wear them out and about. A massive hydrocolloid bandage would definitely attract some stares!
What makes the ZitSticka Killa spot patches so good?
ZitSticka spot clarifying patches are slightly different to other acne stickers in that they aim to treat early-stage or newfound pimples. You know, those pesky ones that haven’t even reached the surface yet.
Each patch contains 24 self-dissolving microdarts that infuse the skin with targeted spot-clearing ingredients. It sounds painful, but I promise you, once it’s on you can hardly even feel it!
This microdart technology is supposed to show results in just two hours, though I tend to leave the spot patches on a bit longer just in case.
How do you use them?
With the CosRX and Dot-A-Spot acne stickers, you simply peel off a patch and apply it to the area of concern.
The ZitSticka process is slightly longer.
The Killa Kit comes with eight patches and eight cleaning swabs – enough for eight applications if used together. Although, the ZitSticka website does say that the CLEANA wipes are still an effective ‘zit beautifier’ even when applied independently.
Before using a patch, you’re advised to prime the area by disinfecting it with one of the swabs. These contain a mixture of alcohol, tea tree, salicylic acid and vitamin E – all super important ingredients for skin sanitisation.
Give this a few seconds to dry and then you’re good to go in with your sticker. Each one comes in its very own plastic case (to avoid damaging the darts). So make sure that you don’t touch the exposed sticky part when removing the packaging.
Leave the patch on for a few hours, or overnight if you can, and you should be able to see a noticeable difference when you wake up.
ZitSticka patches are designed with four specific functions in mind, each of which is achieved by a different ingredient. Salicylic acid exfoliates, niacinamide calms, Oligopeptide-76 silences and sodium hyaluronate hydrates.
This is what sets it apart from a simple hydrocolloid bandage.
Does the ZitSticka Killa Kit actually work?
I have to admit, I was a skeptic at first. I didn’t think that the microdarts would make a difference as to how the spot patches administered the ingredients. A pimple patch is just a pimple patch, right?
But I was pleasantly surprised with the results.
I noticed that if I applied these stickers early enough, my spot would almost completely disappear. Most of the redness would be gone, and the skin in that area would be much flatter.
If I applied them a little late into the ‘spot cycle’, the patches would still be effective … just in another way. I felt, at this point, they acted more like a regular hydrocolloid bandage in that they would draw out the inflammation and bring it to the surface of the skin.
Either way I think using this product significantly shortened the life cycle of the spot and sped up the healing process.
Overall, are the ZitSticka spot patches worth it?
Personally, I think these are a great spot treatment to keep on standby. Say, for example, you have an important event and you need to get rid of a pimple overnight, these stickers would be ideal.
I like how fast-acting they are and how passive most of the process is. A lot of it is just waiting after all!
However, these are pretty expensive. Especially when you consider that the CosRX ones are around a quarter of the price AND you get three times as many patches.
If you suffer with deep, under-the-skin acne lesions, the Killa Kit would definitely be a great investment. I like to keep a stash of them in case of emergencies!
But, for daily use, I would suggest stocking up on some regular hydrocolloid patches too.
Use them in conjunction with each other and you’ve got an unbeatable spot-clearing solution!
Where can you buy the ZitSticka pimple patches?
You can find these patches at most UK beauty retailers, like Cult Beauty, Beauty Bay and LOOKFANTASTIC. Or you can order them directly from the ZitSticka website.
