After my recent Wild deodorant purchase, I found myself on the Wild mailing list. My email inbox is usually full to overflowing so I don’t tend to read through all marketing emails that I get… but one email from Wild caught my eye in particular.
I’ve been looking for an affordable daily shampoo and conditioner set, so when I saw that Wild had launched a new refillable shampoo and conditioner duo, I was instantly sold.
As a citrus lover, I went for the Pink Grapefruit & Lime set. Here are my thoughts…
Who is Wild?
Wild is a sustainable deodorant brand that’s focused on reducing the amount of bathroom waste that goes into landfill, starting with – you guessed it – deodorants.
Recently, the brand has branched out into other body care products, including body washes, lip balms, shampoo bars and – their latest launch – refillable shampoos and conditioners.
What does Wild’s shampoo and conditioner claim to do?
Wild’s refillable haircare line comes in two varieties: Strengthen & Repair and Rich & Nourishing. You can find out which scent corresponds with which variety in the section below.
The Strengthen & Repair line has been formulated with damaged hair in mind. The shampoo contains olive oil esters to gentle cleanse the hair while minimising breakage. The conditioner is powered by coconut oil and shea butter which restore moisture and give your hair that soft, healthy feel.
Both the Rich & Nourishing shampoos are enriched with aloe vera and fermented bamboo which increases shine and helps hydrate the scalp. The conditioners again contain that fermented bamboo extract, plus a good amount of grape seed oil which moisturises and reduces frizz.
Which scents are available?
Wild’s new shampoo and conditioners come in three scents:
- Cherry Blossom (Rich & Nourishing) – For normal to oily hair
- Pink Grapefruit & Lime (Rich & Nourishing) – For normal to oily hair
- Coconut & Vanilla (Strengthen & Repair) – For dry and damaged hair
If you’re already familiar with Wild deodorants, you may recognise a couple of them. Since I haven’t tried these deodorant scents, I can’t say how they match up. If you’ve tried both, let me know if they’re similar the comments!
Naturally, I went for the Pink Grapefruit option. I’m a sucker for citrusy haircare, body care, makeup… anything really!
Packaging
The idea behind Wild’s refillable haircare line is that you’ll have a ‘forever case’ which you can empty and refill endlessly.
With this in mind, your first purchase needs to be the shampoo and conditioner starter pack which contains your aluminium case and the pre-loaded refill. After that, you can buy the refills separately (and at a much cheaper price than your initial purchase!).
Unlike most shampoo / conditioner top-ups which come in pouches, Wild’s refills are housed in plastic-free, compostable bottles.
When you run out or product, you just unscrew the top of the case, remove the lid of the refill and then pop the entire bottle straight in. Your old refill can go straight into the compost, creating no waste at all.
Overall, I am a fan of the packaging but there are a couple of things which I’d change if I could:
- The aluminium cases aren’t labelled with ‘shampoo’ and ‘conditioner’ so they’re easy to mix up. I guess this is because your case is multi-functional, you could refill it with shampoo, conditioner or body wash. But it would be great if the kit came with waterproof labels that you could stick on yourself and then change in the future if needed.
- The cardboard packaging of the refills doesn’t correspond colour-wise with the packaging of the starter kit. The Pink Grapefruit starter kit, for example, is blue, but the refill comes in red packaging.
These things are pretty minor though and definitely wouldn’t stop me from repurchasing!
Wild shampoo and conditioner review: My experience
I’ve been using the Wild shampoo and conditioner duo for a couple of months now and I’m relatively happy with how it’s been working for my hair.
Obviously I can only speak for the Pink Grapefruit & Lime line, but I like that this isn’t too fragranced. The citrus scent is very subtle yet still leaves my hair smelling fresh and clean.
Both the shampoo and conditioner wash out easily and don’t leave my hair feeling coated or weighed down – a definite plus if you have fine hair like me.
Since fine hair gets greasy quite quickly, it’s really important to have a dependable daily shampoo and conditioner duo. This Wild set is great for everyday cleansing as it doesn’t build up on the roots or ends.
However, I do feel that these products could do with being a bit more moisturising. My hair is bleached and I find that the ends can get a bit tangled and dry when I use this set. A good hair mask helps combat this a little but if your hair is particularly damaged, you’ll probably want something a little more reparative.
Summary
This mid-priced Wild shampoo and conditioner set would suit a variety of hair types. It cleanses efficiently and is gentle enough for daily use. Housed in refillable aluminium containers, this duo feels more expensive than it is and lasts a decent amount of time. I recommend it if you’re looking for a dependable, sustainable option.
Pros:
- Refillable and sustainable packaging
- Vegan and cruelty-free
- Washes out easily
- Leaves hair feeling clean without any product build-up
Cons:
- Hard to tell the shampoo and conditioner apart in the bottles
- Not that moisturising, and may be too drying for bleached hair
Where can I buy the Wild Shampoo and Conditioner?
While Wild does sell shampoo bars on their website, this refillable haircare range is exclusive to Tesco, meaning you can’t purchase the shampoo and conditioner from their website at all! Well, not for the time being at least…
To save you time strolling up and down the haircare aisle, you’ll find this by the deodorants (you might as well pick up a new Wild deodorant refill while you’re at it!).
Best of all, if you’ve got a Tesco Clubcard you can currently save a third on the shampoo and conditioner starter pack (containing the case). It’s usually £15 but is currently going for £10.
With a Clubcard, the refills are also £4.66 (normally £7 each).
