It looks like we’ll be saying adiós to our skinny jeans in 2021 … well at least until the trend for skin-tight trousers rolls back round again. The countless pairs in my wardrobe have been well worn over the years, but – like so many others – I’m definitely ready for a change. Although skinnies will always have a place in my heart, I must admit they were never the most practical (or the most comfortable). I mean, who wants to be lounging around in a pair of jeans that cut off your blood flow whenever you twist or move? Not me!
I recently invested in a few pairs of wide-leg trousers and I’m so glad I did. Not only are they waaaay more comfortable than my skinny jeans ever were, they’re a lot more versatile than I imagined they would be. These have become my default everyday trouser choice and I’m about to show you why you need a pair in your life too!
#1 Weekday Rowe Extra High Straight Jeans £40
Weekday have an amazing selection of wide-leg trousers in a whole range of different materials; denim, cord, Tencel … the list goes on. These aren’t the most flared, but they’re perfect if you’re looking to slowly transition out of your skinnies. I love that they’re high-waisted as this makes them look super flattering on.
Plus, they’re a great length. I have these jeans in both Sky Blue and Echo Black, and they fit perfectly – I’m 5’5″ for reference.
#2 Bershka Wide Leg Trousers £25.99
I liked these so much I decided to buy two of them as well! I fell in love with the pinstripe ones first, but – since the camel ones kept calling to me – I couldn’t resist getting both. Though these are slightly more formal than the jean option, I still think you could get away with wearing them as part of a more casual outfit. Add a pair of classic white trainers and an oversized tee and you’re good to go.
#3 Monki Yoko Corduroy Trousers £35
If you want to hop on the wide-leg trend but aren’t a fan of denim, this one’s for you. Monki is one of my all-time favourite stores – they make great clothes, everything’s affordable, and they promote sustainable consumption – what more could you ask for? I love these trousers because the cord isn’t too in your face and they come in loads of different colours. The yellow and lavender ones would be perfect for spring/summer.
#4 H&M Imitation Leather Trousers £29.99
Again, these trousers are a great alternative if you’re tired of the denim look. They’re a bit more fun and can add a little edginess to an otherwise plain outfit. Plus, I can’t stress enough how soft they are!
#5 ASOS COLLUSION x014 Dad Jeans With Stepped Waistband £25
You’ve probably seen this ‘uneven’ waistband trend everywhere recently. I must admit it took me a while to warm up to the idea, but the more I see it the more I like it. It definitely adds a little interest to your outfit! I love the wash on these COLLUSION dad jeans and at £25 I might just be tempted to buy a pair.
#6 & Other Stories Flared High Waist Trousers £85
These & Other Stories trousers are the most expensive on the list but, since they’re primarily made of wool, we can excuse the price. If you’re a fan of patterns and prefer something a bit more classic, I think these are the perfect pair. They’re smart but can easily be dressed down if needed.
#7 Tiger Mist Sergio Jeans $79.95 AUD
I saw these jeans on Pinterest and immediately fell in love. The swirly pattern is just so unique and really draws your attention. While these trousers are a bit more ‘out there’, they aren’t impossible to style. The fact that they’re tan kind of tones them down a bit and makes it easier to incorporate them into your already existing wardrobe.
#8 Motel Rocks Zoven Trouser In 90’s Zebra Black and White £48
Animal print has been huge recently. And, if you’re feeling brave enough, these zebra print trousers would be an amazing way to hop on this trend. Pair them with a black leather jacket and some chunky boots to complete your Instagram-worthy look.
