Long time, no post! I’ve been taking a bit of time off but I’m excited to get back into my regular posting schedule… starting with this review of Spectrum’s Brush Laundrette Bundle!
Spectrum are well known in the beauty community for their high quality, yet affordable, vegan makeup brushes. I’ve also reviewed their Core Cosmetics makeup line if you feel like taking a peek! But, you might not know that the brand offers SO MANY other tools and accessories. From beauty bags to Disney-themed storage solutions, there’s loads of cool items to shop.
I’m always looking for ways to make cleaning my makeup brushes less of a chore, so when I saw the Brush Laundrette Bundle I instantly had to get it. If you’re someone, like me, who hates washing your makeup brushes and wants to make the task a whole lot easier, keep reading!
What comes in the bundle?
Spectrum’s Millennial Brush Laundrette Bundle comes with the pink microfibre towel (in a tiny mesh bag) as standard, and your choice of vegan brush soap. The three soap scents are:
- Bergamot and Pink Grapefruit
- Marble Gardenia and Tuberose
- Pomegranate
If pink’s not really your colour, the brand also has an adorable Cinderella-themed brush laundrette bundle which comes with a baby blue towel (and mesh bag) and a pumpkin spice brush soap!
How often should you wash your makeup brushes?
There’s no exact timeframe in which you should wash your brushes, but most dermatologists recommend cleaning them at least once a week. Makeup brushes that aren’t frequently cleaned can collect dust, dead skin and oil which could have potential consequences for your skin.
And it doesn’t matter how frequently you use your brushes either! The makeup brushes that you only use once a month may be building up just as much bacteria as the ones you use every day. So it’s a good idea to do a thorough wash of ALL your brushes when you have a free moment during the week. You could even incorporate it into your self-care Sunday routine!
How to use Spectrum’s brush launderette towel and soap:
This bundle is really easy to use and it makes cleaning your makeup brushes way less of a faff. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Lay your towel out flat and open up your brush soap. You’ll see that there’s a silicone pad on the inside of the lid.
Step 2: Grab your brush and dampen the bristles with lukewarm water. You can do this by holding your brush under the tap for a few seconds.
Step 3: Work your brush into the soap until a lather starts to form.
Step 4: Swirl the brush against the silicone pad, continuing until all the makeup is gone and the brush looks clean. You might need to rinse the pad and repeat steps 2 and 3 a couple of times – when the foam is white you can move on to the next step.
Step 5: Rinse off the soap under a tap. You don’t want to submerge your brushes in water as this can compromise the glue.
Step 6: Squeeze out excess water using your hands… I also find that shaking the brush a few times helps to release any water that’s trapped. Then, swirl your brush against the towel – it should feel damp to the touch at this stage but shouldn’t be dripping wet.
Step 7: Insert your brush into one of the elasticated slots, making sure that the bristles are facing away from the hooks at the top. Once you’ve finished cleaning all your brushes, you can hang your towel up to dry.
Pros:
➕ Using the launderette towel means it’s super easy to dry your brushes the correct way i.e. upside down. I always used to dry them with the bristles facing upwards, simply because I had no way to dry them!
➕ The hooks mean you can hang your towel almost anywhere – though ideally you should place it somewhere that’s warm and dry.
➕ When you feel like the towel needs a wash, you can detach the hooks and throw it in the washing machine. It’s really easy to clean!
➕ The elasticated slots vary in size so you won’t have to worry about your brushes slipping out.
➕ The towel and soap can be stored away in the mesh bag which means that this really doesn’t take up much space!
Cons:
➖ The towel works best with smooth-handled brushes. It can be slightly tricky to push rubber-coated handles (I’m looking at you Real Techniques 👀) into the elasticated slots.
Where can I buy the Spectrum Brush Laundrette Bundle?
