The beauty world has become increasingly saturated with celebrity-fronted brands. And, while it’s tempting to write them off straight away, I have to admit that there are quite a few I genuinely do like!
We’ve got established successes like Fenty Beauty and Rare Beauty which have no doubt changed the beauty game (let’s not forget that Fenty launched with over 40 foundation shades!), as well as newer celeb-led brands that are making a big splash. One of these wave-makers being Hailey Bieber’s Rhode Skin.
Rhode’s focus on simplicity is what I think really makes this beauty brand stand out. It launched in 2022 with just three skincare products (the Peptide Glazing Fluid, Barrier Restore Cream and Peptide Lip Treatment), and there have only been a handful of new releases in the three years since.
The brand’s first foray into makeup came in the form of their Peptide Lip Tint which is basically a tinted version of their cult Peptide Lip Treatment. It contains just as many great ingredients, but with an added hint of colour, making it an easy swap for your everyday gloss or balm.
This Lip Tint went viral almost immediately after it launched. A couple of years down the line and the hype is still pretty strong. But is it actually worth it? In this post I put it to the test to find out!
Rhode Peptide Lip Tint Shades
The permanent Peptide Lip Tint collection currently consists of five fairly neutral shades:
- Ribbon – Sheer pink
- Toast – Rose taupe
- Raspberry Jelly – Crushed berry
- Pbj (the newest addition!) – Berry brown
- Espresso – True brown
Rhode has also been known to bring out limited edition Lip Tint shades which are available for a brief period online or at their pop-up stores.
These drops tend to be seasonal and a little bit brighter than the core collection. Last summer, for example, we had Salty Tan, Shortcake, Peach Pit and Guava Spritz.
We’ve also had some iconic limited edition launches to mark Hailey’s birthday, like Cinnamon Roll and Jelly Bean. I’m hopeful they’ll bring some of these shades back at some point!
Packaging & application
While I’m not in love with the packaging of the Rhode skincare line (why the grey?!), I actually do think the Rhode Peptide Lip Tints are quite cute.
They’re very slim – they’d have to be to fit on the front of a phone case! And I like that the colour of the tube reflects the shade on the inside. There’s nothing worse than sifting through a bunch of shades, inspecting the labels, just to find the one you want!
What’s also great is that you don’t have to press very hard to get the product out (I’m looking at you Balm Dotcom 👀). The applicator is nice and small too so, even if you’re on-the-go and in a rush to get this on, it’s really easy to stay within the lines so to speak.
Formula, finish & texture
Rhode’s Peptide Lip Tints sit somewhere between an oil and a gloss. They’re ultra shiny but not at all sticky or gloopy in the way that traditional lip glosses tend to be.
These tints coat the lips and almost feel like they form a protective barrier. They smooth out lip lines, and quench any dryness too, so what you get is a really plump, healthy finish.
I really like how this Lip Tint feels on my lips. It’s smooth and non-grainy, and it doesn’t have an unpleasant taste to it either.
Unlike the majority of the OG lip treatments, the Rhode Peptide Lip Tints are unscented which could be a pro or a con (depending on how you look at it). I personally don’t mind either way!
Pigmentation
These Lip Tints are designed to be ‘sheer-but-buildable’ meaning they’re only going to provide a light wash of colour on first pass. You’re going to want to go in a second time, or at least apply a thick first layer, to get more intense colour payoff.
Ribbon and Toast are definitely less pigmented than the other shades in the core collection, so even layering them you’re not really going to build up much opacity. That’s kind of what I like about them though, the sheer tint complements your natural lip colour underneath.

Wear Test: How long does it last?
Being a sheer balmy-gloss, the Rhode Lip Tint doesn’t last ages, but I’d still say the longevity is decent (provided you’re not eating or drinking in the meantime). It can last me a couple of hours on a good day.
I tend to reapply this as I would a regular lip balm. When my lips get dry, I swipe this on and voilà problem fixed.
The nice thing about these tints is, even when they completely wear off, my lips still feel moisturised. Yes, they’re nice when they’re on, but the hydrating effect lasts well beyond that too, which is not something I expected before trying them!
Where to buy the Rhode Peptide Lip Tint
Rhode’s Peptide Lip Tints are £18 for 10ml, and can only be purchased through the Rhode website or the brand’s TikTok shop. Please don’t buy the £5 lookalikes on Amazon, these aren’t the real deal!
Rhode currently ship to the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain. Shipping costs vary but it’s usually free if you order over a certain amount.
Alternatives to the Rhode Peptide Lip Tint
Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment 🍋 – Ole Henriksen’s Pout Preserve combines the hydrating power of peptides and kokum butter to nourish the lips and smooth out lines. This lip treatment comes in four delicious-sounding shades – Citrus Sunshine, Strawberry Sorbet, Crème Brûlée and Cocoa Crème – to rival Rhode’s own Peptide Lip Tint offering.
Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm 🧈 – Looking for a bigger shade selection? The Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balms offer the same level of hydration as their Rhode counterparts, but just with four more colours to choose from… And a slightly bigger applicator too.
Naturium Phyto-Glow Lip Balm 🌱 – Another fragrance-free option, Naturium’s Phyto-Glow Lip Balm is a little kinder on the wallet. This one’s £12 for 10ml and, like the Summer Friday’s balm, comes in four more shades.
Laneige Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum 🍩 – Laneige have taken the ‘glazed doughnut’ trend to a whole new level with their innovative doughnut-shaped applicator. These are more pigmented than the Rhode Lip Tints, but can still be sheered out for a natural, everyday look.
REFY Lip Gloss 💧 – A gloss with all the benefits of a balm? Sign me up! Coming in 12 high-shine shades, a balanced mix of neutrals and vibrants, REFY has totally nailed it with this lip product. No wonder it won so many awards last year!
Final Verdict: Is the Rhode Peptide Lip Tint Worth It?
I have to admit, before trying the Rhode Peptide Lip Tint I imagined it had the hype it did for two main reasons: 1) it’s from a celebrity brand and 2) it’s VERY Instagrammable.
There’s one thing I may have overlooked, though. It’s so well loved because it’s a genuinely good product.
I’m pleasantly surprised by just how much I like this formula. It’s lightweight but still hydrating, and glossy but not sticky. It’s really tricky to achieve both of those things!
I also love the shades on offer. The one I’ve got, Ribbon, is such a stunning satiny pink that works so well with a no (or low) makeup look. And it’s the perfect pairing for the new Rhode Lip Shape in Lift which I’ll be sure to review soon! Keep your eyes peeled!
