Youth To The People has been around for years, but it’s not exactly the easiest brand to get hold of in the UK. So when it landed on Cult Beauty last year I was SO excited to try it out! All the products looked great … but there was one that had particularly caught my eye. You’ve probably seen it ALL OVER Instagram – the Kale + Green Tea Superfood Cleanser.
Despite the amazing reviews I was still a little cautious about spending £30 on a cleanser, so I got the travel-size to test it out. Did it live up to the hype? Keep reading to find out!
What is it?
The Youth To The People Superfood Cleanser is a gel cleanser that’s packed with ‘superfood’ antioxidants from ingredients like kale, green tea and spinach. It works to remove makeup, prevent oil buildup in your pores and help your skin maintain a healthy pH level.
What are the key ingredients?
Aloe Vera Juice – A natural extract derived from the aloe vera plant. It’s claimed to promote skin healing and reduce inflammation.
Green Tea Leaf Extract – A plant extract that has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
Matricaria Flower Extract (German chamomile) – An extract taken from the flowers of the chamomile plant. It soothes the skin and reduces inflammation.
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate – A stable, oil-soluble form of vitamin C that brightens the skin and is said to boost the production of collagen.
Panthenol – A provitamin of vitamin B5. It boosts hydration, attracts moisture and soothes irritated skin.

How should you use this product?
Youth To The People recommend that you use this product on pre-dampened skin. They suggest wetting your face first, before pouring the Superfood Cleanser onto wet hands and rubbing it into a lather. Once it starts to foam, you can then gently massage it into your face for a minute or two.
This is a water-based cleanser so it works best as your morning cleanse or as the second half of your evening double-cleanse. Youth To The People’s Superberry Dream Cleansing Balm is the perfect partner to the Superfood Cleanser. If you’re looking for an oil-based cleanser to add to your skincare routine, give the Superberry one a go!
How do I feel about?
THE SCENT
This has a pretty strong scent which I actually find quite comforting, but I can imagine it’s not to everyone’s taste. The standout ingredient here is probably the aloe vera – I’d say I can smell this above everything else!
THE PACKAGING
This cleanser feels and looks really luxe, despite it being pretty simple. I love that it comes in glass bottle – although I can’t help but think this is partly what makes the product so expensive!
THE TEXTURE
The Superfood Cleanser is actually a lot thicker than I initially imagined it to be. I assumed that it would be really runny, but it’s super gloopy! Because I don’t have a pump this made it a little difficult to control how much product I was pouring out. However, I think I prefer this thicker texture to the liquid-type cleansers that just slide right off of your hands. It doesn’t feel like you’re wasting as much product.
Notes on sustainability
Ethical: All Youth To The People formulations are vegan and cruelty-free.
Environmental: The product comes in a glass bottle so that’s obviously a good start! Aside from this, Youth To The People states that all their formulas are ‘responsible’, using local ingredients from local suppliers when possible.
Overall thoughts
I’ve been loving using this cleanser and can definitely see myself buying the full-size version. It’s gentle, smells fresh and feels like it’s really doing good for your skin – I only wish it wasn’t so expensive!
I decided to use the Superfood Cleanser at a point when my face was pretty dry (from the cold and from retinoid use), and I really felt like it was helping my skin regain some of the moisture it had lost. The brand says this product is designed for all skin types – and I 100% agree with this – but I’d say it’s particularly suited to dry/irritable skin.
This isn’t the type of cleanser that’s going to slough off dead skin and reduce oil production. The non-drying formula means it WILL leave your skin feeling clean and fresh, but it doesn’t contain any exfoliating actives (like salicylic acid). Just looking at the ingredients list with panthenol, aloe vera and green tea, you can tell the focus here really is hydration!
Overall, I would absolutely recommend the Superfood Cleanser to people who are looking for a gentle, everyday cleanser. I think everyone needs something like this in their skincare stash – it’s the perfect product to turn to whenever your skin needs a break. And since I’m working on improving my moisture barrier, this has been a dream to use over the past few weeks!
