I’m continuously looking for my ‘forever sunscreen’ (the SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Sun Serum comes very close!!), so when I see an SPF that might appeal to me I have to try it! The Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream is one of those products that stood out to me the moment I saw it. It contains all the ingredients I typically look for in a soothing skincare product: aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, cica, etc. Plus, I’m a sucker for lightweight sunscreen formulas and I’d seen lots of people say this was possibly the lightest SPF they’d tried!
Since the Thank You Farmer Sun Cream had been on my wish list for quite some time, I was very excited when PURESEOUL sent it to me to test out. Here’s how I got on with it…
What is it?
The Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream is an ultra-lightweight sunscreen that protects the skin from the sun’s rays while also imparting it with fresh, healthy glow. It contains a combination of chemical and physical filters to give broad spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB radiation.
What are the standout ingredients?
- Purslane extract – A plant extract that’s high in antioxidants. It also has wound healing and anti-ageing benefits.
- Sunflower oil – A non-comedogenic plant oil that locks in moisture, soothes the skin and is said to have anti-ageing properties.
- Soybean lipids – Has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and prevents moisture loss.
- Aloe vera – Soothes the skin and reduces redness.
- Sacha inchi oil – A plant oil that’s packed with unsaturated fatty acids. It reduces inflammation and protects the skin’s moisture barrier.
- Sodium hyaluronate – The salt form of hyaluronic acid. It helps water permeate into the skin and softens fine lines.
- Centella Asiatica – A plant extract that helps soothe and hydrate the skin. It also reduces inflammation and dryness.
This sunscreen contains six UV filters. The first five are chemical filters and the last one (titanium dioxide) is a physical filter.
- Octinoxate – Protects against UVB rays, but not UVA.
- Homosalate – Protects against UVB rays.
- Ethylhexyl Salicylate – Protects against UVB rays.
- Uvinal A Plus – Protects against UVA rays.
- Octocrylene – Protects against UVB and some UVA rays.
- Titanium Dioxide – Protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
How should you use this product?
After cleansing, toning and moisturising, apply two fingers worth of product to the face, neck and ears. Pay special attention to sensitive areas that are likely to catch the sun, like your hairline or directly under your eyes.

The packaging
The Thank You Farmer sunscreen comes in a 50ml light blue squeezy tube with a twist-off cap. The squeezable packaging means it’s pretty easy to dispense the product and measure out how much needs to be used.
The scent
This sunscreen lists fragrance as one of its ingredients, so it does have a slight floral scent. I personally don’t find it overpowering, but the smell may be a little heady if you’re used to unscented sunscreens. I don’t really mind a bit of fragrance though, so long as it doesn’t cause any irritation!
I don’t find this sunscreen to be irritating but you may want to avoid it if you’re particularly sensitive to fragrance in skincare.
The texture & finish
This has a light, lotion-like consistency that’s characteristic of many popular Korean sun creams at the minute. Texture is a hugely important factor for me when picking an SPF which is why I’m often drawn to Korean sunscreen formulas. If you’re someone, like me, who really doesn’t like the feel of thick and sticky traditional sun creams, you’ll probably like this one!
It’s hydrating without feeling oily, and it sinks into the skin really quickly. It also sits really well under makeup, doesn’t break me out and doesn’t leave a white cast.
Because of all the moisturising ingredients, the finish is super dewy. It does mattify slightly as the day goes on but in general, unless you powder it, this is going to continue looking rather glowy. I think this is partly why it looks so good under makeup – it lets just the right amount of dewiness shine through!
Overall thoughts
Overall, I think the Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream is a great option for dry, sensitive skin types. I actually think it would also work for combination / oily skin but you’d probably have to use this in place of a moisturiser if your side does lean towards the oily side.
This sunscreen isn’t sticky or greasy but it is very radiant… which is why you may have to adapt the way you apply it. Even though my skin is quite dry, I do find this leaves my face looking a bit shiny and I often have to apply powder over the top if I want to wear it by itself i.e. without foundation.
On the plus side, the Thank You Farmer sunscreen has a stunning texture that actually makes you enjoy sunscreen application. It doesn’t really feel like a sun cream at all! I think this is why so many people love it, it just feels like a moisturising lotion.
Would I repurchase it? For me, this is a tiny bit too dewy and it does make my eyes sting a little so I probably wouldn’t repurchase it. I can see this working well for plenty of people – I actually gave this one to my sister and she loved it enough to buy another tube(!!) – but personally there are other sunscreens I reach for first.
Where can I buy the Thank You Farmer sunscreen?
You can pick up the Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream from the following retailers:
FAQ
Does the Thank You Farmer sunscreen pill?
I haven’t noticed any pilling at all with this sunscreen.
Which skin types does the Thank You Farmer sunscreen suit?
This is a very dewy sun cream so I think it would be best suited to dry or normal skin. If you have oily skin or combination skin that gets particularly oily in your T-zone, this might not be for you.
Does the Thank You Farmer sunscreen cause eye stinging?
This does cause a bit of eye stinging for me. This might not be the case for everyone but it’s something to be aware of if your eyes are particularly sensitive.
Does the Thank You Farmer sunscreen leave a white cast?
Despite containing titanium dioxide (a physical UV filter that often leaves a white cast), this blends into the skin pretty flawlessly.
Does the Thank You Farmer sunscreen clog pores or cause breakouts?
Because this sunscreen is so dewy, it’s easy to assume that it could contain pore-clogging ingredients. Running it through the Biba de Sousa pore-clogger checker, however, shows that this doesn’t contain ingredients that are likely to cause breakouts.
Is the Thank You Farmer sunscreen cruelty-free?
I’ve done a little bit of research and can’t find anything from the brand that states whether their products are cruelty-free or not. Some retailers do claim that Thank You Farmer products are cruelty-free, and that most of them are vegan too, but it would be great if the brand could confirm itself could confirm this.
