If you have permanent dark circles, you’ve probably tried everything under the sun to get rid of them. Despite all the eye creams and DIY hacks that promise to brighten your under-eye area and banish the bags, nothing really seems to work. I’m constantly looking for the magic solution to my tired-looking eyes so when I saw the Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Eye Patch, I felt like I had to try it. I mean, what’s the harm in just one more eye product?
I’ve used a few eye patches in the past, but they’ve always been the single use ones that come in individual packaging – not so great for the planet. This definitely seems like a more sustainable option!
I also really liked the idea of having a proper stash that I could just come back to whenever I needed a bit of pampering. I’m always forgetting to stock up on beauty products so a big pack like this should last me a while.
With all that said, the big question is: did these eye patches actually work? Let’s find out…
What is it?
The Heimish Hydrogel Eye Patch is not, as the name might lead you to believe, a singular eye patch. It’s actually a tub of 60 eye patches (which allows for 30 separate applications). Each patch is pink, glittery and slightly curved to fit around the shape of the eye.
What are the claims?
Heimish describes the hydrogel rose water eye patch as a product that has ‘anti-wrinkle and brightening synergistic effects’. It’s designed to hydrate and moisturise the eye area, keeping the skin supple and bouncy. Although, they do suggest you can put it on other areas of your face, its primary use is for the under eyes.
What are the standout ingredients?
These hydrogel eye patches are packed with great ingredients, the key ones being:
Glycerin – A humectant that draws moisture into the skin.
Niacinamide – A form of vitamin B3 that reduces inflammation, brightens the skin and helps repair the skin barrier.
Purslane extract – Derived from the Portulaca Oleracea plant. It’s anti-inflammatory and repairs cellular damage.
Centella asiatica extract – A medicinal herb that has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Sodium hyaluronate – The salt form of hyaluronic acid. It helps water permeate into the skin and helps smooth out fine lines.
Allantoin – A plant-derived ingredient that soothes and softens the skin.

How do I feel about?
THE SCENT
If you like rose water scented products, you’ll love this. The eye patches are pretty strong smelling, but not in a chemical kind of way. They just smell floral and fresh, in the same kind of manner as the Innisfree Jeju Cherry Blossom Jelly Cream.
THE TEXTURE
Being made out of hydrogel, the eye patches are extremely soft and squishy. This makes them feel really soothing and gentle against the skin.
THE FIT
I have seen a couple of reviews where people have said that the patches are a little too small and curved to fit the eyes properly. However, I didn’t really have this issue. I found that the shape of the patch fit around my eye very comfortably, and covered the under-eye area really well. I think the fit probably depends on the shape of the eye, which will vary from person to person. My eyes are quite small and round so definitely keep this in mind!
THE PACKAGING
The patches come in a large-ish white tub with a chrome, dusky pink lid. The design is very minimal and in-keeping with the rest of the Bulgarian Rose line.
On the inside, there’s another kind of lid/seal which is there to keep the eye patches fresh. A little spatula sits on top of this cover to allow you to pick up the patches in a mess-free way. I will say, although the spatula is good for separating the individual eye patches, you will probably need to use your fingers to actually place the product on your face.
My only criticism about the packaging is that, once the inner seal is opened, it doesn’t click back in place as firmly as it originally did. This means that, while the eye patches are fine, some of the liquid does escape.
THE SUSTAINABILITY ASPECT
Most hydrogel eye patches tend to be biodegradable, meaning you can just stick them in your compost pile when you’re done. Although Heimish doesn’t say anything about the Bulgarian Rose Water ones specifically, I’m assuming it’s the same for them too!
Having multiple eye patches in one tub is also way more sustainable than buying ones that are individually packaged. Of course, you still have the tub to dispose of, but you’re not throwing away tiny bits of plastic all the time.
Moving onto the outer packaging, both the tub and lid are made out of a polymer plastic called polypropylene, which is widely recycled. Having said that, you should still probably check with your local authority just to make sure!
Overall thoughts
I’m actually really impressed with the Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Hydrogel Eye Patch and I can definitely see myself buying it again. The patches feel super cooling on the skin and really help soothe tired eyes.
After the first use, I noticed that the skin under my eyes looked and felt a lot more moisturised. The results obviously aren’t permanent, but I think if you were to use these a couple of times a week then that would be enough to sustain that plumped, glowy look. I didn’t see much of a reduction in my dark circles, however, my under-eye area did look a lot more healthy in general.
The only issue I have with these eye patches is the application process. It’s kind of difficult to get the patches to separate and they’re quite prone to tearing. Once they’re on the face they do tend to slide as well, though this sort of stops as the moisture dries up. I think this is pretty typical of hydrogel eye patches anyway so I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s an issue with just this product. It kind of comes with the territory.
Despite this, I still think they’re worth buying. The pros definitely outweigh the cons, and I can get past a little application difficulty if the product itself is good!
