Pushed it a bit too far with the chemical exfoliants? Used a cleanser that did not agree with your skin? Increased your retinoid strength?
There are many things that can cause sore, irritated skin… and there’s not a clear path to fixing it.
Let’s face it, when this happens you’ve probably tried every skincare product under the sun to dry to bring the redness and inflammation down.
Finding a serum or a cream that does the job often involves a lot of trial and error. That’s why I’ve stepped in to help make the search a bit easier.
Today, I’m reviewing the Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum Unscented – one of the most highly touted Korean serums for reducing irritation and repairing the skin barrier.
Does it really help soothe sensitive skin? And is it worth all the hype? Let’s find out!
What is the Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum?
Purito’s Wonder Releaf Centella Serum is a water-based gel-like formula which uses a combination of soothing skincare ingredients to strengthen the moisture barrier, reduce irritation and hydrate the skin.
It comes in two variations: one with fragrance, and one without. The unscented version – which contains all the same great ingredients as the original serum just minus the essential oils – is specifically targeted at sensitive skin. And, as a sensitive skin gal, it’s the unscented version I’ll be reviewing today!
Key ingredients
This serum has one of the most impressive ingredients lists I’ve come across. Here are just a few of the standout ingredients:
Centella Asiatica – Also known as cica. Well-loved for its calming and barrier-supporting properties.
Niacinamide – A skin brightener that also has anti-inflammatory qualities.
Panthenol – Otherwise known as provitamin B5.
Ceramide NP – Strengthens the moisture barrier and hydrates the skin.
Sodium Hyaluronate – The salt form of Hyaluronic Acid. This is a humectant which helps draw moisture into the skin.
This serum also contains a bunch of Centella Asiatica derivatives, like Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, and Asiatic Acid, which have all the same benefits as Cica – helping soothe inflamed, sore skin.
Packaging
This serum comes in a small, clear plastic bottle with a pump. This makes it really easy to dispense the right amount of product – I find that two or three pumps is enough for my whole face.
The packaging is almost identical to the original Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum so make sure you’re picking up the right one. The scented serum has a dark green lid, while the unscented version is a slightly lighter green.

Texture and finish
The Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum Unscented has a light, gel-type consistency. It’s not as fluid as an ampoule or toner, but it’s definitely thinner than a gel moisturiser.
As soon as you start rubbing it in, it adopts a water-like quality. This gives it the ability to absorb quickly into the skin, adding hydration without any weight or stickiness.
I like that this gives a true second-skin feel. There’s no tacky or greasy residue, and it doesn’t interfere with any skincare or makeup products that you layer over the top.
It’s one of those products that I don’t need to need to do a test run with before a big event because I know that it will always play well with my makeup.
My experience
If you’ve ever damaged your skin barrier, you’ll know that feeling of desperation as you try to fix it. Going through your skincare shelf and slapping on products in the hope that something will bring down the irritation and provide some relief.
The clue really was in the name for the Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum Unscented. My skin was so sore after going a bit too hard with my personalised tretinoin treatment, and this really did help soothe it straight away.
This serum has been a staple in my skincare routine ever since I tried it, and it’s a product that I’ll always make sure to stock up on. I like how this calms and hydrates the skin without any unnecessary stinging (if you know, you know), it’s incredibly gentle!
My skin is blemish-prone and it doesn’t clog my pores or break me out. It also doesn’t cause problems with other skincare products, or other active ingredients, in my routine. If you’re looking for a great all-rounder, this is it.
Why you’ll love it (and why you might not)
pros
- Lightweight, fast-absorbing formula
- Sits well under makeup and layers nicely with other skincare products
- Skin-like, non-sticky finish
- Quickly reduces redness
- Fragrance-free and alcohol-free
cons
- May not be hydrating enough for very dry skin
Where to buy it
Because of its popularity, the Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum is available to buy from most beauty retailers. You can order it from Boots, Sephora or LOOKFANTASTIC, or specific Asian beauty marketplaces like YesStyle and Stylevana.

If you’re in the UK, and looking for local places to shop K-beauty, you can also grab this from PureSeoul, Skin Cupid and Skinsider for around £20. I’d recommend shopping around if you’re not in a rush, though, as Stylevana offers a double pack for the same amount!

Final verdict: Is the Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum Unscented worth it?
This serum is a constant in my skincare routine – I always reach for it when skin is feeling dry, sore and irritated.
Yes, it’s a skin barrier repair product, but it’s not as heavy as the ultra-nourishing creams and balms you might be used to. It’s super versatile, and works for both AM and PM use, leaving your skin feeling soothed and hydrated – no heaviness or stickiness in sight.
This is one of the more affordable (and more widely available) soothing Korean serums, so I can see why it’s built up quite a fanbase. It’s calming, healing skincare at its best.
That said, if you don’t suffer with redness or irritation, or deal with similar skin concerns, you may not get as much out of this serum. If you’re using it purely hydration, I think there are probably more effective serums out there.
This one is especially good for inflammation, and that’s where I see the most value in it. If my skin is very irritated and uncomfortable, a few pumps of this and it feels instantly more calm and balanced.
Ultimately, I would recommend it for every skin type – dry, combination, oily – I think it’s beneficial for everyone. But, if you’re not using it to target redness or irritation, bear in mind that you might not see the same drastic results.
5/5
