AD info | The products in this blog post have been very kindly sent to me to review by Perricone MD. As always, all thoughts expressed are honest and my own.
As I’ve reached my late twenties, and those pesky fine lines have started to appear, I’ve found myself delving deeper into the world of ‘anti-ageing’ skincare.
With age, your skin tends to become drier, less firm and more uneven in both tone and texture. While these changes are of course a natural part of getting older, it pays to have a skincare routine that helps you navigate them.
I’m all for ageing naturally… just not prematurely! I like to think of anti-ageing skincare as a means of maintaining healthy skin, rather than eliminating signs of ageing entirely!
I really love the idea of nurturing your skin as it ages and adapting your skincare routine accordingly.
Your skin in your thirties or forties (or even your twenties!) is very different to your skin in your teens, so it makes sense that its requirements will be different too!
That’s where Perricone MD comes in.
They’ve developed a skincare system that’s focused on delivering healthy-looking skin from both ‘inside-out and outside-in’.
The Cold Plasma Plus+ line, in particular, is all about using powerhouse ingredients to banish dullness, improve smoothness and correct discolouration. All in all, making ageing skin appear much more youthful.
The brand sent me their two newest Cold Plasma Plus+ launches which I put to the test over the last couple of weeks. Here’s how I got on…
Who is Perricone MD?
Founded in 1997 by celebrity dermatologist and anti-ageing expert Dr. Nicholas Perricone, Perricone MD is a luxury beauty brand that takes a holistic approach to skincare. Their philosophy is three-tiered, consisting of an anti-inflammatory diet, nutritional supplements and antioxidant-rich topical skincare.
The brand has eight skincare collections, Cold Plasma Plus+ being one of them. Each collection uses various science-backed ingredients, like Vitamin C Ester, Acyl-Glutathione and DMAE, to address different skin concerns and bring about different benefits.
About the Cold Plasma Plus+ line
Perricone MD’s Cold Plasma Plus+ collection, originally just called Cold Plasma, uses an innovative liquid crystal delivery system to help ingredients quickly and effectively absorb into the skin.
It features a handful of active ingredients that are often praised in the beauty community for their ability to deliver skin-changing results. These include:
- DMAE – Increases firmness in the short-term
- Copper Tripeptides – Stimulate collagen and elastin production
- Vitamin C Ester – Brightens the skin and minimises hyperpigmentation
- Omegas 3, 6 and 9 – Protect and reinforce the outermost layer of the skin, and improve hydration
Cold Plasma Plus+ Daily Defense Moisturiser SPF35
First up is the Daily Defense Moisturiser. This is a lightweight morning cream designed to provide long-lasting hydration while fighting off sun rays and protecting the skin barrier.
It contains all the key Cold Plasma Plus+ ingredients mentioned above, alongside skin-soothers like niacinamide and bisabolol, and hydrators like hyaluronic acid and sunflower oil.
I generally like to keep my moisturiser and SPF separate, so I initially wasn’t sure how I’d get on with this formula. Honestly, though, this does feel pretty heavy duty.
Texture-wise, it’s light on the skin, but it’s definitely more sunscreen-like than I expected… in a good way! I was concerned this wouldn’t offer enough protection (since it’s only SPF35) but I’ve worn this by itself on multiple sunny days and it’s passed the test.
Because this contains mineral UV filters, as opposed to chemical ones, one thing to be aware of is that it does leave quite a visible white cast. This lessens somewhat following application but doesn’t disappear entirely. If I’m applying makeup over the top this isn’t an issue at all, but it doesn’t really work for no-makeup days. I usually end up going in with a bit of blush or bronzer to bring back a bit of colour.
When it comes to finish, though, this moisturiser looks lovely on the skin whether you wear makeup over the top or not. It fills in pores and fine lines to make the skin look smooth and healthy. It also conceals redness which makes the overall tone of the skin look more even.
This layers beautifully with other skincare and makeup products too. I’m always impressed at just how flawless my foundation looks when I have this moisturiser underneath.
Have I noticed any actual improvement to my skin? It’s too early to say, but I’m hopeful that with prolonged use this will live up to its claims!
Cold Plasma Plus+ The Intensive Gel Mask
Perricone MD’s Intensive Gel Mask is a cooling wash-off mask that delivers an instant and intense moisture boost. A medley of peptides, fatty acids and phospholipids come together in this formula to soften and plump the skin, leaving it looking youthful, springy and radiant.
We know that skin tends to get drier, and that barrier function reduces, as you get older, which is why it’s so important to add moisture back into the skin through skincare products like these!
I’m already a huge fan of wash-off gel masks – they’re a great alternative to single-use sheet masks – and this one definitely didn’t disappoint.
I love that it doesn’t contain fragrance so it’s suitable for sensitive skin types. It’s also not overly gloopy or sticky, and it doesn’t tighten when it dries. There’s nothing worse than a gel mask that feels uncomfortable to wear, you don’t want to be itching to take it off! This one from Perricone MD is extremely light and feels more like a moisturiser than anything else.
I’ve really enjoyed incorporating it into my PM skincare routine, not just for the fact it’s helped brighten and refresh my skin, but because it’s so good at calming it too.
I’ve been struggling with a few uncomfortable breakouts recently and this mask has been such a god send. It takes down redness and irritation in minutes, soothing sore skin in such a quick and easy way.
The changes in my skin from using this gel mask are subtle but definitely noticeable. My complexion looks brighter, more hydrated and less puffy. And, of course, those red marks have reduced too.
It’s hard to tell whether these benefits will last in the long term, but I really like the way this product has been transforming my skin so far!
