I’ve been tempted by the LookFantastic Beauty Box for so long, and this month I finally bit the bullet and subscribed. From what I could see on the website, April 2022’s box had a really varied selection of skincare, haircare and bodycare bits that I hadn’t tried before, so it seemed like the perfect month to start.
I’ll list the six products that I received down below. This box also came with a sample-size sachet of Aveeno’s Oat Gel Moisturiser – I still haven’t tried this one yet though so I’ll maybe review that in a future post!
How does the LookFantastic Beauty Box work?
Subscribing to LookFantastic’s monthly beauty box means that each month a parcel will show up to your door containing an assortment of goodies for you to try. Every beauty box is guaranteed to contain at least six products, though not all these are full-size. You’ll generally be able to check the LookFantastic website to see what products are going to be in the beauty box for the upcoming month.
Prices start at £15 if you’re looking to subscribe to the one-month renewal plan. However, the price per box is cheaper if you go for a longer subscription. The 12-month subscription, for example, is £13 a month.
What I received in April’s box:
- Avant Hyalu Replenish Lip Balm (10ml)
- Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel (40ml)
- Philip Kingsley Elastisizer Booster Restoring Conditioner (20ml)
- Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner (50ml)
- Australian Bodycare Pure Tea Tree Oil (10ml)
- Decorté Liposome Advanced Repair Serum (12ml)
- Sample of the Aveeno Oat Gel Moisturiser
Avant Hyalu Replenish Lip Balm (worth £56)
Avant is a new brand to me so I was pretty excited to try this one. The product comes out of the tube as a balm, but I found that once it hits the lips it takes on an almost oil-like consistency. This does mean it transfers quite a bit. However, it also means that the product doesn’t feel as heavy or sticky on the lips as a regular balm does.
The Avant lip balm doesn’t have much of a scent and I would say it’s fairly nourishing. The formula, with its hyaluronic acid and cupuacu butter, is supposed to hydrate and improve the texture of the lips – I feel like it did both these things.
Would I buy this product if it weren’t included in this beauty box? Probably not. The formula is nice enough but I wouldn’t say there’s anything remarkable about it. The RRP for this balm is £56 and I can’t see myself spending that much on a lip product in future. I did enjoy using this… I just think the price point could be slightly lower.
Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel (worth £7)
I could smell this muscle gel as soon as I opened the lid of the beauty box. It’s pretty strong-scented… but not in a bad way. The essential oils immediately made me feel like this would be up to the job!
I wasn’t sure how often I’d use this as I don’t suffer with aching joints or muscles all that much. But fortunately, or rather unfortunately, I managed to sleep awkwardly and strain my neck, so I actually had an opportunity to try this out!
This gel has an instant cooling effect when applied to the skin, though the description says it’s meant to have ‘warming and easing powers’. I did feel like this eased a bit of the stiffness in my neck, but I can’t really say if this was from the product or just from the act of me massaging it in. Either way, I think this is a handy product to keep in my collection.
Philip Kingsley Elastisizer Booster Restoring Conditioner (worth £4.50)
I’ve only used this a couple of times so it’s hard to tell if this has had much of an impact on my hair. The tube doesn’t contain any instructions, which meant that initially I was just using this as I would my regular conditioner. It was only when I checked the website that I realised this has multiple uses.
You can use it in place of your conditioner, try it as a conditioning mask or even add this into your everyday conditioner for a more intense boost of hydration. Because the tube is pretty small – you only get 20ml – I’ve been mixing this into my Gisou conditioner and it’s made my hair feel so soft! I’ve been loving this combo but I’m still not sure whether I’m convinced enough to get the full size.
Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner (worth £7.50)
I’ve seen this toner quite a bit on Instagram and everyone seems to love it, so I was intrigued to see how my skin would get on with it. This smells fresh and slightly fruity, and it has a really lightweight consistency. Seriously, this stuff is like water!
The toner sinks into the skin really quickly and doesn’t leave a sticky or oily finish. I can’t say I’ve noticed any soothing or calming benefits as of yet… but maybe that comes with extended use. I do like that this is targeted towards sensitive and delicate skin though – I’m definitely being drawn towards gentler toners lately.
My only criticism of this product would be the applicator (if I can call it that). The full-size toners come with a spray button which means you can use the product as a mist/spritzer to refresh your face during the day. Unfortunately, the travel-size doesn’t have this, so you’re restricted to using it at the beginning of your skincare routine.
Australian Bodycare Pure Tea Tree Oil (£8.99)
I don’t normally use tea tree oil in my skincare routine so I was a little worried when I opened the beauty box… just because I didn’t want it to go to waste. Tea tree oil can’t be used on its own so – depending on what you’re planning on using it for – you’ll need to make sure you have a carrier oil (like jojoba, rosehip or argan oil) on hand to dilute it.
Lots of people also choose to use tea tree oil as an acne treatment – diluting it in water means it can be applied like a toner. Personally, I don’t find it effective on my skin so I doubt I’ll use it this way.
Having said that, tea tree oil is a good antiseptic so I’m sure there are plenty of other things I could use it for. The LookFantastic guide recommends using this product for burns, hair and even toothache. Maybe I’ll have to give some of these a go!
Decorté Liposome Advanced Repair Serum (worth £21.99)
I haven’t heard of this brand before, and honestly I wasn’t too wowed by the packaging. But, having tried it, I feel like I need to investigate Decorté a little more.
This is a super lightweight serum that’s designed to lock in hydration and help protect/repair the skin’s moisture barrier. It blends into the skin really nicely. And, although it does have a slight tacky finish, I don’t feel like this makes it difficult to apply other skincare products / makeup over the top.
I do feel like my skin feels more hydrated when I use it. However, I haven’t yet decided whether this is worth repurchasing. I’ll update with my decision when I reach the end of this bottle.
