2021 makeup trends have headed in a decidedly more natural direction. And it wouldn’t be fair to jump on the bandwagon without mentioning the brand that spearheaded it all: Glossier. While minimal makeup isn’t exactly a new thing, I feel like companies such as Glossier and Milk have made it easier than ever to obtain that ‘you but better’ look. And I’m 100% on board!
There are three standout makeup staples that I’d recommend for those wanting to switch up their everyday routine. Read on to find out which products will help you bring out your inner glow and nail the ‘no-makeup makeup’ look.
The Makeup Set: My Thoughts & Impressions
The Makeup Set includes three products: Boy Brow, Cloud Paint and Lash Slick. I feel like this hits all bases as an ‘everyday essentials’ makeup kit, since Glossier’s signature fresh-faced look is all about enhancing those key facial features.
You can buy each product separately, but it’s probably not the most cost efficient way to do it. Purchasing them together means you’ll save £8, which is basically half the price of the Cloud Paint anyway!
Boy Brow
I’m just going to start by saying this is my favourite product of the three. As far as makeup staples go, I think Boy Brow is an absolute necessity.
Having fairly light eyebrows, I’ve always struggled to find a gel or pomade that wasn’t too dark or unnatural looking. For some reason most blonde eyebrow products tend to have grey (or even reddish?!) undertones, which doesn’t look quite right.
I was a little skeptical about the ‘blonde’ shade, but after trying it out I was pleasantly surprised. It blends in well and doesn’t make your eyebrows feel too sticky or stiff. Since it’s a pomade, there’s still some room for movement so – unlike gel formulas – you don’t have to worry about your brows being ‘stuck’ in place.
Boy Brow won’t make your eyebrows more defined. Like most Glossier products it works with what you already have, so you’ll need to shape them before applying the product. I do like, however, that it adds a bit more body to your brows. You’ll definitely notice a difference in terms of thickness. It’s also really buildable so, if you prefer a slightly fuller look, just apply a few more coats.
There’s a reason why this product has a cult following, it’s amazing!
Lash Slick
I’d heard mixed reviews about Glossier’s Lash Slick before I tried it out. Lots of people had said that it wasn’t thick or volumising enough, but weirdly I like it for those exact reasons. It’s not at all heavy on your lashes so it really feels like you’re not wearing any mascara at all.
Even after building it up with multiple coats, I don’t notice any clumping or ‘gloopiness’. Plus, it doesn’t smudge (at all!), which I reaaaally appreciate. I love the Benefit Roller Lash formula – since it provides that dramatic, full-bodied effect – but it does have a tendency to leave you looking like a panda at the end of the day.
Lash Slick’s plastic brush means that the mascara transfers onto the lashes nicely and, thanks to the seal, you always get the right amount of product when you pull it out of the tube.
It’s lengthening without looking spidery, and is definitely very natural looking. If you’re expecting a ‘falsies’ style mascara, this definitely isn’t it. But for those who like their makeup application to be super quick, I’d make this your go-to. It takes seconds to put on and requires very little clean up afterwards. So good!!
Cloud Paint
I hadn’t properly dipped into the world of cream blushes before trying Cloud Paint. The last one I’d bought was the Bourjois Healthy Glow blush – which tells you just how long ago that was!
I’ve tried others since but there wasn’t really one I’d liked enough to stick with. That was until I discovered Glossier.
Cloud Paint has changed the game for me. The blushes are bright and pigmented enough to be noticeable, but not so much that they look clownish. They’re also super easy to blend in if you’ve accidentally applied too much product.
I’m impressed at just how long it lasts on the face and just how easy it is to pat it in. My worry with cream blush was always that it would disturb the foundation underneath. However, the Cloud Paint seems to kind of blend in with your base to give a seamless glow.
I have to admit, dispensing the cream can be a little tricky and you’re likely to end up with a big blob on the end of your finger. Since the tube is quite small, this isn’t ideal … but I still think you manage to get your money’s worth.
