AD Info | This product was gifted to me by Estrid. However, I am under no obligation to post a review or share the product on my blog/socials.
Estrid has been popping up on my Instagram feed for months and, though the packaging caught my eye, I must admit I never really took the time to properly check out the brand. But, when Estrid contacted me, I did a bit of digging and actually discovered a lot about the company (and their products) that made feel like I should give this razor a shot!
So, how did I get on with it? Keep reading to find out…
Who is Estrid?
Estrid is a Stockholm-based, female-founded razor subscription and body care company. Their mission is to provide an affordable, quality razor that’s not influenced by gender-based pricing and that gives users control over how and when they choose to shave.
All their products are vegan and cruelty-free. Shipping on both the starter kit and the replacement blades is climate compensated too!
How does the subscription work?
Once you’re on the Estrid site, you’ll be encouraged to ‘get started’ on your razor subscription journey … which begins with choosing your desired razor colour. At the moment, they have six to choose from: Matcha (mint green), Bloom (baby pink), Cloud (white), Space (lilac), Peach (orange) and Lemonade (yellow). I went for Bloom but the other colours are equally as cute – it was a hard decision!
The next step is deciding how often you want to receive your replacement blades. This might be a bit hard to gauge so Estrid gives you a guide based on the frequency with which you shave. If you shave a few times a week, for example, they suggest replacing your blades every second month, If you shave a bit less often, you might want to replace your blades every fourth month instead.
After you’ve completed both these steps, you can add extras like a shaving cream or travel case, or go straight to payment. Here you just fill in your details and voilà you’re done!
What comes in the Estrid Starter Kit?
The Estrid Starter Kit comes with:
- 1 stainless steel handle
- 2 five-blade razor heads
- 1 steel wall mount
Packaging
I LOVE the packaging that this starter kit comes in! When you see that pink box arriving in the post it really does feel like a gift to yourself. I also appreciate that it’s letterbox sized so you don’t need to wait in all day to receive it.
When you open up the package, you’ll see that the holder, handle and blades are neatly stored in little envelopes. I can’t tell whether this is to prevent damage or just for appearance reasons – either way I think it really adds to the unboxing experience!
All the exterior and interior packaging is recyclable which is also really great.
Razor rundown
The handle
I was pretty surprised when I first picked the handle up – it’s a lot heavier than I imagined. Not in a “this is too weighty” kind of way, but more in a “wow this actually feels like amazing quality” sense.
The handle itself is made of steel, but on the underside (where you would naturally hold it) there’s a rubber strip. This allows you to grip the razor better … which I for one am very much grateful for. Wet hands and stainless steel aren’t the best combo!
If you’re wondering what the button on the front of the razor is for, this is how you insert and remove the blades. If you push down, the cartridge will pop right off!
The holder
Like the handle, the wall mount is made of steel, so again it’s pretty weighty. I was a bit concerned that this would make it difficult to stick onto the wall, but I haven’t had too many issues. The holder has only fallen off once and I think this might have been due to a lack of moisture. You really need to get the sucker cup wet before you attempt to stick it.
The razor head
These cartridges are designed to rival the five-blade razors that men traditionally use. Normally, razors that are marketed to women have fewer blades and therefore can’t provide such a close shave. These actually do!
My skin is noticeably smoother when I use this Estrid razor (compared to a disposable one). I also really love that the lubricating, vegan soap strip means that the razor just glides over the skin. Despite the efficiency of the razors, I haven’t nicked myself yet!
Where can you buy this starter kit?
You can order a starter kit like this one from the Estrid website. Simply click ‘Get Started’ on the brand’s homepage and you’ll be guided through all the steps. It literally takes about 2 minutes to set up your subscription – super easy!
The kit itself is £7.95, and each set of replacement blades is £9.95. When you order the starter kit, you can select how often you want the blades sent to you: every second month, every third month, or every fourth month.
You can pause or cancel the subscription at any time, so you don’t feel like you’re tied into it. You can also skip a shipment if you feel like you don’t need it!
