AD info | These products were kindly sent over to me by ESPA in return for an honest review. As always, all opinions and words are my own.
With the launch of their new Hydra Gel Eye Masks, ESPA’s Isotonic range is slowly (but surely!) growing in size.
Radiance is the name of the game here, and a stellar line-up of nourishing, moisture-boosting ingredients means that this might just be ESPA’s most skin-quenching collection to date.
If you’re all about hydration and glowy skin, this skincare line will be right up your street. So, without further ado, let’s jump right in and get to know the newest member of the Isotonic family.
Who is ESPA?
Established in 1992, ESPA is a luxury beauty brand which takes a holistic approach to skincare, using natural, high-quality ingredients to create an at-home spa-style experience.
I’ve reviewed a few of their other products in the past, including their famous Tri-Active Regenerating Calming Cica Cleansing Balm, so do check that out if you want to find out more about the brand!
But first, let’s dive into all the newness!
ESPA Isotonic Hydra Gel Eye Masks
About the product
These Hydra Gel Eye Masks are an absolute godsend for tired eyes. They’ve been specifically formulated to brighten and revitalise the under-eye area, combating puffiness while helping to soften the appearance of fine lines.
Who are these eye masks for?
These are perfect for anyone who feels that the skin around their eyes could do with a little TLC.
Whether you’ve just hopped off a flight, been staring at your work laptop all day, or stayed up late to catch the latest episode of your fave series, these’ll make your eyes feel more refreshed and awake.
Key ingredients
- Active Nutrients Mineral and Electrolyte Complex – A blend of magnesium and other minerals from the Irish Sea, plus thermal water from the Pyrenees.
- Vegetable Taurine – A naturally-occurring amino acid that’s been shown to improve skin hydration, repair the skin barrier and reduce signs of fatigue.
- Snow Mushroom – A wild fungus that’s rich in fatty acids. It boosts collagen production, calms the skin and is said to be an even better hydrator than hyaluronic acid!
- Spirulina Platensis Extract – A microalgae which is packed with vitamins, proteins and amino acids. It strengthens the skin barrier and make the skin feel smooth and supple.
ESPA’s products are famously loaded with essential oils – this is what gives them that spa-like quality! But I’m really glad they decided to skip the oils with these eye patches. The fact that they’re unscented makes them a safe (and solid!) choice for sensitive skin types. The skin under your eyes tends to be particularly delicate so I love that, by not adding essential oils or fragrance, there’s way less risk of irritation.
How easy are they to apply?
These eye masks are absolutely saturated in serum which means they are quite slippery. Getting them on the face isn’t really a problem, but once they’re there they don’t tend to stay under the eyes very long!
If you lie down straight after applying – just to give the masks a little bit of time to stick – this definitely helps. After a minute or two you should be able to wander around as normal!
On the plus side, since there is so much serum, these eye patches take a while to dry out, so you can move them around to find the most comfortable placement.
This product comes with a tiny pair of tweezers which means your hands stay clean and dry throughout the application process. And I’m pleased to report that the tweezers don’t tear the patches as you pick them up either! I hate when that happens!
Price
At £46 this obviously isn’t the cheapest option on the market but, for a high-end brand, the price isn’t unreasonable. As you get 30 pairs, the price per wear works out at just over £1.50 which feels like it’s worth the spend for a weekly or bi-weekly treat!
Final verdict
I’ve really been enjoying using these ESPA Isotonic Eye Masks lately. I don’t often suffer with puffiness around my eyes, but I do find that my under-eye area gets dull and dry when I don’t get enough sleep. These masks have been the perfect remedy for that.
I just stick a pair on for 10 minutes, remove, then tap in the excess serum, and I instantly feel more with it. These are super cooling so they feel amazing on sore, tired eyes – I love popping them on at the end of a long day.
After repeated use,I’ve also noticed that the dehydration lines around my eyes look a little less pronounced. They haven’t disappeared entirely, but my under-eye area definitely seems smoother and brighter immediately after I apply these masks.
For me, the only real downside is that the leftover serum doesn’t really absorb into the skin. While it doesn’t feel sticky or uncomfortable under the eyes, the serum pills when it dries which makes these masks slightly tricky to use in the morning.
It’s not a huge deal since I prefer applying these before bed anyway, but you’d probably need to wipe away some of the excess serum if you were planning on using these eye masks before getting ready for the day.
Why not pair your eye masks with…
ESPA’s Isotonic Hydration Face Mask
Hydration isn’t just for the eyes, show the rest of your face some love with ESPA’s Isotonic Hydration Face Mask. This is wash-off mask which plumps and rejuvenates the skin, making it look fresher, softer and more energised.
Like the Isotonic eye masks, this gel mask has cooling properties which helps brighten the skin and reduce redness.
With a silver sheen and super silky texture, this might just be the prettiest (and most comfortable) face mask you’ll ever use!
