Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette Review

Makeup minimalists, listen up! 📢 If you’re on the hunt for one product that does it all, the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette might just be the answer.

This is one of those foundational beauty products I feel everyone could do with in their collection. And if you’re someone who enjoys a very pared back routine – I’m talking four or five products max – a multi-functional palette like this one fits in pretty nicely!

You can use it as a highlighter, a blush, a bronzer – I sometimes even use it as an eyeshadow! It’s such a versatile product to have.

But Dior makeup isn’t cheap, so let’s cut to the chase: is it actually worth the splurge?

In this review, I’ll rate the packaging, pigmentation and overall performance of the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette to help you decide whether you should add this one to your makeup bag.

What is the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette?

This palette is part of Dior’s Backstage makeup line: a collection of essentials inspired by the techniques and expertise of professional makeup artists working backstage at runway shows.

It’s meant to offer various levels of glow, from a natural, lit-from-within type of radiance to a bright and bold luminosity.

The Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette was initially released in 2018, so it’s not a new product by any stretch… but it’s definitely one that keeps evolving. The 001 Universal palette – which is what I’m reviewing today – was the first to launch.

The Universal palette features two highlighters (the pink and white shades) and two blushes (the gold and bronze shades).

If this quad doesn’t quite catch your eye though, Dior also does five other variants:

• 002 Glitz – Evening-style shimmers with more champagne and peachy tones
• 003 Pure Gold – A mixture of yellow gold and platinum gold shades
• 004 Rose Gold – A pink-heavy selection, with many blush options
• 005 Copper Gold – Warm copper tones for a bronzed finish
• 006 Celestial Glow – A cool-toned palette for an icy winter look

Packaging

For a luxury palette, the packaging is pretty understated. It comes in a sturdy plastic case with the Dior name on the front – very no frills!

I like that you can see the shades through the top. When the palette’s new and the embossing is still in tact, it’s very pretty… though it’s perhaps slightly less so when it’s gone through a bit of wear and tear!

I also love that the lid closes fairly firmly, with a satisfying click, so you know that the shimmery powder won’t be flying all over the place!

Formula & Finish

The shades in this Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette are soft and buttery, with the powder being finely milled, so you don’t get any chunky particles of glitter. It’s a very soft, subtle type of shine – just enough to add a bit of brightness and dimension to the face. So, if you’re into a strobed, Insta-style highlight, this may not be for you.

Pigmentation & Application

Each shade appears to be pretty pigmented when you pick it up with your fingers, but they do diffuse pretty quickly and easily with a brush. I’d definitely say that the blush shades are more pigmented than the highlights, and they tend to show up more on the skin because of this.

These are buildable, so you can add more luminosity as you go. However, as I mentioned above, the finish is still not going to be super blinding.

Performance: Does It Last All Day?

As a general rule, the more pigmented the shades are, the longer they last. And I definitely find this to be true with the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette.

The pink and bronze shades have the best longevity and generally don’t need reapplying throughout the day.

The white and gold shades hold up well enough, but I would most likely need to touch them up if I were going from a day to night look, for example.

Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette Swatches

The 001 Universal quad is the most varied of the Dior Backstage Glow palettes. It doesn’t just follow one colourway, it hits various bases – you’ve got your blush, your bronzer and then the two traditional highlight shades.

Obviously, this is coming from the perspective of someone who is quite pale, so the shade ‘Bronze’ could equally work as a highlighter for deeper complexions!

Final Verdict: Is the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette Worth It?

I really like the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette and I do get good use out of it. It’s a really handy staple to have in your collection, especially if you want just a few high-quality go-to makeup products, rather than an array of separate pans and palettes you have to sift through when getting ready in the morning.

It’s also a great product for travelling. Why bring multiple separate items when you can take just the one? This palette condenses everything to save on luggage space (which is a big deal when you’re just taking a carry-on or travelling light).

This lasts ages (I’ve still not hit pan!), and works for both day and night wear. Yes, it gives quite a subtle shimmer, but it does build up nicely. If you love a soft, radiant glow then this is 100% worth investing in. If you’re a holographic highlighter fan, you might want something more high-shine and intense.

The Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette, in all variants, usually retails for £43 and can be ordered directly from the Dior website. Dior have a pretty good loyalty program so it’s worth grabbing the palette from here if you’re likely to order more from the brand in the future!
