Beauty of Joseon is no stranger to the sunscreen game. The brand has successfully launched four game-changing SPFs (including the viral Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics), and have just come out with their fifth: the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen.
This is Beauty of Joseon’s first mineral sunscreen and their first tinted formula. I really wanted to see if it was on par with Beauty of Joseon’s other sunscreens so naturally this SPF found it’s way straight into my Boots basket.
Honestly, I’m not usually a fan of tinted sunscreens. I tend to find it really hard to find one that matches my skin tone, and I’m often not too keen on the finish either – they generally don’t sit well on my skin.
But if any brand could make a tinted sunscreen that could impress me, it would be Beauty of Joseon… especially when there’s 12 different shades on offer.
Let’s jump in and see what the Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is all about.
What’s the finish like? How does it feel on the skin? How much coverage does it give? I answer all your questions down below!
What is the Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen?
The Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen SPF30 PA +++ is an ultra-lightweight, tinted physical sunscreen designed to impart the skin with a sheer wash of colour.
Think of it as a mix between a sunscreen and a skin tint. It simplifies your morning routine by acting as both, so you have one less step to do and one less product to buy!
How great is that? Not only does this protect your skin from the sun, but it gives you an even, ‘your skin but better’ finish too.
N.B. What’s a bit confusing is that the Beauty of Joseon website lists this as SPF 40, and I’ve definitely seen other reviewers with packaging that reads SPF 40, but the bottle I’ve got (which I ordered through Boots) is SPF 30. Maybe it’s a UK thing – I don’t know what the reasoning is! If you do know, drop a comment down below!
What are the key ingredients?
Unlike Beauty of Joseon’s other sunscreens, the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen isn’t heavy on trending skincare ingredients like green tea, rice water and panthenol.
Instead, we’ve mostly got emollients in here which control the feel of the sunscreen on the skin. These are what’s giving this tinted sunscreen that soft, silky finish.
And, of course, we have our singular UV filter Zinc Oxide – a physical sunscreen with broad spectrum (UVB, UVA II, and UVA I) sun protection. Zinc Oxide is also meant to be an anti-irritant, so this is great for those with sensitive or reactive skin.
We know that sunscreens containing Zinc Oxide tend to leave a white cast, so adding colour pigments and making this a tinted formula helps get around that somewhat.
First impressions
Packaging
This comes in a short, white bottle with a precise nozzle which allows you to easily control how much product you’re dispensing. The bottle also has a flat bottom which means it stands upright, unlike the other two Relief Sun sunscreens.
Scent
I don’t really notice a scent with this sunscreen. I think any scent it does have must be from the skincare products alone, as I don’t see any fragrance ingredients in the INCI list.
Shade range
The Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen comes in 12 ultra-sheer shades, which is pretty decent considering many brands seem to bring out a ‘one shade fits all’ tinted (read: orange) formula and then call it quits!
The sheerness of the tinted sunscreen means it’s adaptable, and quite forgiving, even if it’s not a perfect match for your skin tone.
I love that this also comes in a range of undertones. P indicates peach, N indicates neutral and Y indicates yellow.
I’ve got the shade LP100 which is a light, pink-toned shade. It’s actually a little too light for my skin tone (I’ve never had this problem with a tinted sunscreen before so I’m quite impressed!) but with a bit of bronzing I can make it work.
If you’re unsure what your shade would be, Beauty of Joseon have a handy shade finder on their website which can help you find the closest match.
Texture, feel and finish
As the name suggests, the consistency of this tinted sunscreen is very fluid and runny. It pours out of the bottle with ease and blends into the skin effortlessly.
This has quite an oily feel to it initially, which I don’t mind too much as this is what gives it that spreadability. You can massage it into your skin like a serum, there’s no tugging or pulling involved.
Because of the oiliness of the formula, this is very dewy to begin with. After a while though, this does dry down to semi-matte, powdery finish. I’d give it at least 30 mins to really set in before you make a judgement on this because the finish does change quite a lot during the day!
Application
I find the best way to apply this is with your fingers, as you would any other sunscreen. A sponge soaks up too much of the product, and a brush can make this look a bit streaky.
Because this is a sunscreen / skin tint hybrid, it’s a bit tricky to know how much you should apply. I try to do two-fingers worth, like I usually do with my liquid sunscreens, but this leaves me with a lot of blending to do.
I probably wouldn’t apply this much product if it were solely a skin tint, but since this is an SPF, I’m just conscious that I need to use quite a lot of it to reap the sun protection benefits.

Coverage
This is a very sheer tinted sunscreen formula so the coverage is minimal. It doesn’t conceal dark post-acne marks but it does even out the complexion and reduce overall redness.
The closest thing I can compare it to is a super lightweight skin tint. It actually reminds me a lot of the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, this one’s just a tad thicker.
Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen Review: Overall thoughts
The more I play around with the Beauty of Joseon Tinted Sunscreen, the more I like it.
The first time I tried it, I wasn’t sure about it. While I liked the finish at the start of the day, by the end my skin was left feeling quite dry. The second time I used this, I primed my skin with the Byoma Phyto-Mucin Glow Serum beforehand and the sunscreen sat beautifully, so I’ve been doing the same since.
All that to say, I think skin prep is key in getting this sunscreen to work for you, especially if you have dry or combination skin.
If your skin is oily, you’ll probably have fewer issues. The sunscreen has oil-controlling properties which makes it great for absorbing excess shine throughout the day, but not so great if your skin is dry in the first place!
I really recommend spending some time on your skincare routine before you go in with this tinted sunscreen. A nice, hydrating serum underneath was enough to stop this sticking to dry patches and creasing under my eyes.
Overall, I think this is good for low effort or ‘no makeup makeup’ days, when you just want something that’s fuss-free and easy to apply. I like that this blends with just the warmth of my hands, and that I barely need to look in a mirror to check that it’s covered my face evenly.
It’s serum-like and lightweight so it doesn’t pill or ball up on the skin, and makeup sits really nicely on top of it too.
Obviously, being tinted, this is not the type of sunscreen you can continuously reapply throughout the day, but it’s a great one to chuck on in the morning!
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Very breathable
- Lightweight and comfortable on the skin
- Blend easily
- Sheer tint which evens out the complexion
- Fragrance-free
Cons:
- Low coverage – could be a pro or a con!
- A bit drying, might not be great for dry skin
Price & value
The Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is £16 for 50ml (£17 in Boots). I don’t think that’s too bad. Comparing it to other tinted sunscreens with similar shade ranges, like the Supergoop! Protec(Tint) Daily SPF Tint (£40) or the Ultra Violette Daydream Screen SPF50 Tinted Veil (£38), the Beauty of Joseon one is certainly more affordable.
It is a tiny bit pricier than some of Beauty of Joseon’s other sunscreens though. Both Relief Sun sun creams are currently £14 on the brand’s website.
Where can I buy the Beauty of Joseon Tinted Sunscreen?
You can order this directly from the Beauty of Joseon website, or you can grab this from Boots (which at the moment is the exclusive UK stockist).
As I mentioned above, I ordered this from Boots and received a sunscreen which says SPF 30, I’m not sure if you’ll receive the SPF 40 formula ordering directly from BoJ
