Can you believe that autumn is already upon us! While it’s definitely sad to say goodbye to the summer, there are many many things to look forward to as the seasons cool. The cold autumn weather means more hot drinks, more fashion options and – of course – a whole new set of nail designs.
After spending some time scrolling through Instagram, I’ve collected a few autumn nail art ideas that have caught my eye. You’ll definitely want to show these to your nail tech … or even try them out yourself, they’re all so cute!
1. Monochrome Black and White
Don’t panic, swirls are still in for autumn! Give this nail design an upgrade by opting for a simple white and black colour scheme.
A detailer brush will help you achieve those thin, curved lines. Also, make sure to choose a nude or pale pink base shade to really make the monochrome effect stand out.
2. Tortoiseshell French Tip
Tortoiseshell is an autumn classic! Keeping very much in line with the 2021 French tip craze, why not go for a tortoiseshell French manicure?!
This looks really chic and would be the perfect compliment to an autumn capsule wardrobe.
3. Brown Swirls
Deep, chocolatey browns are an amazing choice for autumn. Tones like these can automatically add a bit of warmth to any outfit.
4. All Black w/ Accent Nail
An all-black nail set is a classic autumn look, but brightening it up with a colourful accent nail is such a great idea.
Incorporate some of your favourite summer colours into this design to make the cold-weather transition a little easier.
5. Forest Green French
For a more simple, understated look, try an elegant green French tip. Sage and pistachio were perfect spring and summer colours, but choose a darker shade of green to bring this design into autumn.
6. Neutral Shimmers
Neutral colours don’t have to be boring! Add a bit of interest to a neutral/nude nail look by opting for a shimmery base layer or by using a glitter polish over the top.
Christine (@glosshouse) has gone for Mauvnetic Poles from OPI in order to create the look above.
7. Gradient Tips
The French manicure is still going strong! Put a subtle twist on this classic design by going for a blue/green gradient. This looks super cute paired with some gold jewellery.
8. Multicoloured Checkerboard
We saw checkerboard nails gaining traction this summer, and they’re not going anywhere this season either. Pick a range of cooler, darker shades to give this more of an autumnal vibe.

9. Autumnal Leopard Print
This textured leopard print nail design is right on trend for autumn. You could keep it traditional by using a tan or brown as the accent colour. But I actually think this rusty red looks really unique and effective!
10. Split French Tips
If the solid colour French tip look is a bit plain for you, how about this split design instead? This gives you the option of wearing two of your favourite colours at one time … and, if you really wanted, you could even add more to the mix!
11. Colourful Matte
This French tip / lunula combo looks so cool! You can use pretty much any colour to create this design – although repeating colours does add some cohesion.
Follow up with a matte top coat to really bring everything together!
12. Autumnal Florals
Who said florals were only for spring and summer? Put an autumnal twist on this design by using a selection of tans and browns to form the flower petals, a dotting tool will help you get the right shape.
13. Forest Foliage
Not everyone is a fan of flowers. If you’re one of these people, try leaves instead!
This design still looks dainty and delicate, and it’s not overly cutesy either.
14. Sparkly Micro Tips
Light up the cold autumn days by adding a pop of glitter to your nails. Depending on the shade, you can make this as obvious or as subtle as you like.
The micro tip aspect also makes this ideal for those with short nails.
15. Gradient Hearts
If you’re looking for another short-nail design, this one is perfectly suited.
All you’ll need for this is a nude or white base layer, a few brown shades, a dotting tool and a little bit of patience!
16. Gloss / Matte Contrast
Can’t decide between a gloss or matte finish? Why not do both?
Use a glossy top coat to achieve the shine and a matte top coat to create some depth. Amy (@amyle.nails) has used OPI’s Less is Norse as the base layer in the look above.
17. French Tip and Swirl Combo
Combine two of the year’s biggest nail trends to get this look. Stick with a simple white for the tip, and then follow up with some brightly coloured swirls to create that striking contrast.
