I’m going on a weekend trip at the end of the month and I’ve been super stressed about the luggage allowance. It’s only a short stay so I won’t have to bring too much with me, but skincare is the one thing I hate to compromise on! Once my skin gets used to a routine I don’t like to change it too much, and travelling sometimes means that I have to forgo the products I normally use. However, this time I’ve managed to create a travel skincare routine that my skin might actually enjoy!
Given that the liquid limit within hand luggage is 100ml per item, and the maximum amount you can take is 1 litre, I’ve picked my products accordingly. This travel skincare routine is completely carry-on friendly and it won’t break the bank either!
Here’s what I’m bringing … and what you might want to bring on your weekend trips too!
Cleanser
When there’s a liquid limit it’s really tempting to cave and buy makeup wipes. But here’s why you don’t need to! There are plenty of great cleansing options that fall below the 100ml mark … and some that might not even be classed as a liquid at all.
Cleansing balms tend to fall into a bit of a grey zone. Some airports require you to put them in with your other liquids, some don’t – it really depends. I like to opt for a cleansing balm anyway just because I find them easier to travel with.
For this trip, I’m taking a mini version of The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter (full review here) which is £5 for 20ml. Although the bigger version is still only 90ml, a smaller size is the best way to save space. Plus, 20ml should be more than enough for a couple of days. I also think these Banila Co Clean It Zero minis would be a great option for a weekend trip too.
For my second cleanse, I’ve gone for the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Pouch. This is 50ml and I’ve used it many times before so – fingers crossed – my skin shouldn’t freak out when I use it this time.
Toner/Essence
If space were really tight I’d probably skip this step, but my skin has been feeling super dehydrated at the moment so I’ll definitely be taking an essence with me! My pick is the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Gel (full review here) which is 100ml exactly. It’s not really travel-size, but the bottle isn’t massive either so it wouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience to pack.
Eye Cream
Eye cream tubes are normally quite small so there’s definitely space for this skincare essential. I’m taking the CeraVe Reparative Eye Cream (14ml) which is perfect for using both day and night.
If you have extra space you might consider bringing separate eye creams for morning and evening. But, since I’m only away for a couple of days, I think I’ll manage with one!
Moisturiser
There’s so much choice when it comes to travel-size moisturisers. Practically every brand has a mini moisturiser of some sort. Of course, I went with my trusty CeraVe Moisturising Cream. They do this in multiple sizes so this is ideal for using at home and on-the-go. The massive 454g tub is what I’d use normally, but for my revised travel skincare routine I picked up the cute 50ml version.
Sunscreen
Finally, we have arguably the most important step – sunscreen. Even if it’s going to be raining where you’re going, it’s so important to bring sun protection anyway!
At the moment I’m deciding between the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid Sun Cream and the COSRX Aloe Soothing SPF50 PA+++ Sun Cream (review here). I’m leaning slightly more towards the COSRX one simply because of the moisturising aspect. However, the La Roche-Posay one is a little easier to pack because it is flatter. I’ll just have to work out what fits!
And there you have it – my travel skincare routine for weekend trips. What does your travel skincare routine look like? Let me know!
