AD info | These products were sent to me by Skin Proud with no obligation to review. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.
I’m slightly ashamed to say I didn’t know Skin Proud had come out with a new range – I can’t be the only one, right?!
Somehow the launch of their new Secure the Barrier line completely bypassed me and I had no idea about its existence until this lovely box of goodies turned up on my doorstep!
I’m a big fan of the brand already, but a whole new collection that’s completely fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, count me in.
The Secure the Barrier line is exactly as it sounds, a trio (though I’m sure this is set to expand) of moisture barrier restoring products designed to protect and restore dry, sensitive and perhaps damaged skin.
Just the idea of this collection had me excited. Let’s jump into this Skin Proud Secure the Barrier review to see whether the products were actually as great as they first appeared!
Who is Skin Proud?
Skin Proud is a British, female-founded skincare brand from the makers of Ciaté and Lottie London. It launched with nine products in 2020, which has now grown into six entire collections (or ‘families’ as the brand calls them).
The main focus is on simple, easy-to-navigate skincare which contains skin loving ingredients and comes at an affordable price point.
Their products are PETA certified, cruelty-free, and for the most part vegan.
Another fun fact: As part of their campaign to be ‘proud of the skin your in’, they don’t retouch any images of the models they use on their website or social media. This should definitely be the standard anyway but it’s great to have an actual statement from the brand.
Skin Proud Skin Barrier Booster Serum
We’re starting off strong with the Skin Barrier Booster Serum. This product is my favourite of the three… and, trust me, it was really hard to pick.
This is a lightweight, reparative serum which supports the skin barrier by locking in hydration and fighting off external aggressors, like free radicals and pollution.
Packed with skin loving ingredients, such as ceramide NP, squalane and niacinamide, this serum works quickly to bring a compromised skin barrier back to normal function.
We’ve got avocado oil and olive oil in here to reduce dryness, as well as fatty acids and antioxidants (like vitamins C and E) which really help revitalise the skin.
I love this because it instantly soothes irritation and it just generally feels great on the skin. Despite being so nourishing, it’s not heavy or greasy, and it absorbs really nicely.
I tend to use it underneath my moisturiser, but I’m sure oily skin types could use it by itself. It’s certainly light enough!
I actually think this is a great affordable swap for the Skinfix Skin Restoring Barrier Gel Cream. It’s a fraction of the price and though the ingredients aren’t that similar, the results are.
My only criticism of the Skin Proud Skin Barrier Booster Serum is that the bottle should be bigger! This is only 25ml and I feel like I’m getting through it pretty quickly. A 50ml (or even 100ml) bottle would definitely not go unused!!
Skin Proud Barrier Boosting Eye Cream
Skin Proud’s Barrier Boosting Eye Cream is their newest release, having launched just last month.
This is a rich under-eye cream formulated specifically to deal with tired, sensitive skin. It’s powered by a combination of ceramides, squalane and caffeine which moisturise and re-energize the delicate eye area.
I’m pretty fussy with eye creams but this Skin Proud one is right up my street. It’s lightweight yet nourishing, and melts into the skin with ease.
There’s no stinging (of the skin or eyes) and it doesn’t move around once you’ve patted it in either. I hate those eye creams that never seem to set!
This Barrier Boosting Eye Cream sits beautifully under makeup without any pilling or flaking, and seems to stop my under-eye concealer from creasing so much too.
The main purpose of this cream is to provide moisture, so you’re not really going to see a reduction in dark circles from using it. But I do think my under eyes look less dull and dry which overall makes my skin look brighter and healthier.
Skin Proud Skin Barrier Support Cream
Last, but certainly not least, is the Skin Proud Skin Barrier Support Cream.
This is a daily moisturiser which can be used both morning and night. If you’ve tried any of Skin Proud’s other moisturisers, you’ll know they all have a gel-like consistency, the Skin Barrier Support Cream is much richer.
Despite being thicker in texture, it still sinks effortlessly into the skin and doesn’t feel at all heavy or sticky.
Because it contains silicones, this moisturiser has a soft, silky finish which blurs pores and fine lines. It could easily double as a primer if you’re looking to pare down your morning makeup routine.
Key ingredients like niacinamide and green tea reduce inflammation while strengthening the skin barrier. Squalane and sodium hyaluronate help to lock in moisture too.
I really like this formula and, to be honest, it was about time Skin Proud added a thick, creamy moisturiser like this to their offering! A soothing, redness-reducing face cream is always a hit.
If your skin is dry and irritated this is a really great option. It’s super hydrating but still feels so light. My combo-dry skin absolutely loves this stuff!
Final thoughts
Honestly, this might be Skin Proud’s best collection to date. I do love their other products but many of them are fragranced, meaning they don’t always feel that suitable for sensitive skin. The fact that this line is completely fragrance and alcohol-free really opens it up to a wider pool of people.
For me, this trio feels a bit more purposeful than some of Skin Proud’s other products. Each product has a really strong ingredients list and it’s clear that skin barrier repair is the name of the game.
I think sometimes Skin Proud is overlooked because it is mostly targeted at a Gen Z crowd, but the Secure the Barrier line feels a bit more mature. I feel this would work for people of all ages, not just those in their teens and twenties!
Where can I buy these products?
You can purchase all these Secure the Barrier products from the Skin Proud website. They’re all sold separately but it’s much cheaper to buy them as a bundle.
The Proud to Restore Set contains all three of these products for just £33.95 which means you’re saving 20%.
Which of the Skin Proud Secure the Barrier products would you like to try? Let me know in the comments!
