AD-PR | The products featured in this review were kindly sent to me by PURESEOUL. All thoughts and opinions, however, are completely my own.
Snail mucin is one of my favourite skincare ingredients. So when I saw that PURESEOUL were partnering up with Mizon to giveaway these special edition Lunar New Year snail repair kits, I knew I had to throw my hat into the ring.
PURESEOUL were kind enough to send me one of the boxes to try out and I’m super excited to share my thoughts with you today! The kit contains four products: Snail Repairing Foam Cleanser (30ml), Snail Repair Intensive Toner (50ml), Snail Repair Intensive Essence (50ml) and All In One Snail Repair Cream (15g). Here’s how I got on with each of them…
Snail Repairing Foam Cleanser
Since this is labelled as a ‘foam’ cleanser, in my mind I had imagined the product to be really light and airy. I was pretty shocked when I squeezed the tube and a thick paste came out! But that’s not to say I didn’t like the cleanser … I actually really loved this one.
It does have a kind of clay mask texture – it’s the only thing I can compare it to – but because it is so thick it feels like it’s really doing its job. When I finished washing my face it definitely felt like my skin had been thoroughly cleansed. However, I wouldn’t say it felt dry or stripped at all, if anything my skin looked brighter and more hydrated.
A little goes a long way with this and you’ll be surprised just how long a small tube will last you! It does leave a bit of a film on the skin, but I usually find that this disappears when the rest of the snail repair line is applied.
Snail Repair Intensive Toner
This is thicker in consistency than any other toner I’ve tried. In fact, if you weren’t paying attention to the packaging, you could be mistaken for thinking that the toner was the essence – that’s the kind of texture it has.
I enjoyed using the snail repair intensive toner but I couldn’t definitively say that it made any improvements to my skin in itself. It made a nice addition to my skincare routine, and it perhaps offered a tiny bit of hydration. I loved that it felt cooling and refreshing. It’s also nice to have a toner that doesn’t contain any irritating actives.
However, I don’t think I noticed enough of a difference to form a strong opinion about the product. I will definitely use this toner up, but I can’t see myself buying it outside of this set.
Snail Repair Intensive Essence
The Snail Repair Intensive Essence really reminds me of the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Essence. They’re VERY similar in terms of colour and texture, though it’s worth noting that the Mizon essence contains 88% snail mucin compared to COSRX’s 96%.
In all honesty I don’t think the 8% gap makes too much of a difference. I still found this essence to be really hydrating, and it didn’t leave my skin feeling at all sticky. I always recommend snail mucin essences for people who struggle with a compromised skin barrier and this is no exception. It’s worth the money!
If you had to pick between the snail repair toner and essence, I’d go for this one. Both offer hydration, but this one just does the job better in my books.
All In One Snail Repair Cream
Again, this product is super similar to the COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream. If you’ve ever tried the COSRX cream, you’ll know it has a really unique consistency. I’d say the Mizon All In One Snail Repair Cream still has that viscosity/gooey-ness, but it’s a little less tacky. I found that it dried down a lot quicker than the COSRX version which made it a lot easier to apply other products/makeup afterwards.
The formula of this one is pretty light so don’t expect too much nourishment. If you have oily skin then I think this would be perfect. It offers an adequate amount of hydration so you feel like you have actually moisturised, but it does absorb into the skin really quickly. I can see myself using this during the summer when my skin is less dry. For the winter months, however, I’ll probably go for something a bit thicker.
My only real complaint about this cream is that I wish it were bigger. Size-wise it’s quite a bit smaller than the other products in the kit, and it’s the one that I use the most of, so this went down quite a bit quicker than the rest.
Overall Thoughts
This was my first time trying anything from Mizon and I definitely feel encouraged to explore other products from the brand. I think this set is perfect if you’re unsure about snail mucin in skincare and you want to dip your toe in the water before fully committing.
What’s nice about the miniature kit is that you have access to a full skincare routine: cleanser, toner, essence, and an all in one cream (read: moisturiser). It’s all laid out for you.
I’d definitely repurchase this set as I think the minis are perfect for travelling. I’ve been shoving my COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence in my makeup bag and the Mizon Snail Repair Intensive Essence would be an amazing space-saving swap.
