If the thought of hunting down the best products from an endless array of skincare brands terrifies you a little, let me simplify the process! When I was first getting into skincare I used to find the sheer number of options so intimidating. But, after trying out different cleansers, serums and moisturisers, I’ve come to realise that the best are usually the simplest – which is why I’ve put together this CeraVe skincare routine.
By beauty standards, CeraVe products have a relatively short ingredients list. Among these ingredients we can find things like fatty acids, ceramides and lipids – all of which contribute to maintaining a healthy skin barrier. This is of course important for all skin types, but with dry skin you’ll want to be extra committed to including these in your skincare routine.
So, which CeraVe products are best for dry skin? Keep reading to find out!
NOTE: You’ll notice that I haven’t changed separated this CeraVe skincare routine into day and night. For dry skin, I would keep my morning and evening skincare the same, the only difference being the addition of skincare at the end of the morning one.
STEP 1: Cleanser
The Hydrating Facial Cleanser is one of CeraVe’s most famous skincare products, and for good reason – it’s so gentle on the skin! This face wash contains three essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid, glycerin and tocopherol (vitamin E), all of which keep the skin looking and feeling soft and healthy. They even do this cleanser in bar form. So, for those trying to cut down on plastic waste, this would be a great option!
If your skin is both dry and acne-prone I would suggest incorporating the SA Smoothing Cleanser into your routine too. Perhaps don’t use it both morning and night, or even every day, but try to use it two or three times a week so your skin is getting some kind of gentle BHA exposure.
STEP 2: Serum
If your skin has trouble retaining moisture, adding hyaluronic acid (HA) into your skincare routine is an absolute must. HA is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture into the top layer of the skin. Because of this, you’re going to want to make sure your skin is already wet before you apply it.
The CeraVe Hyaluronic Acid Serum is amazing for dry skin because, on top of its moisture preserving properties, it also contains vitamin B5 which helps to soothe the skin. Plus, it’s fragrance-free and non-comedogenic so it shouldn’t cause any skin irritation either!
STEP 3: Eye Cream
With dry skin you have to be super vigilant about dehydration lines. These have a real possibility of turning into fine lines or wrinkles if not targeted properly, so make sure to incorporate an eye cream into your morning and nighttime routine.
The CeraVe Eye Repair Cream complements the other products in this skincare routine perfectly and is a firm favourite of mine. It’s not super heavy and it sits well under makeup, making it ideal to dab on in the morning. I used to only apply eye creams at night because it always seemed to wreak havoc with my under-eye concealer, but I never have this issue with the CeraVe eye repair cream.
STEP 4: Moisturiser
The CeraVe Moisturising Cream is my all-time favourite moisturiser, I can’t say enough good things about it. Like the hydrating cleanser, this contains three essential ceramides and sodium hyaluronate. But it’s also powered by CeraVe’s patented MVE Delivery Technology which claims to keep your skin moisturised for a full 24 hours!!
Other the past couple of years I’ve actually tried out quite a few other moisturisers, but I always end up coming back to this one as it’s the only cream that stops my skin feeling tight and dry!
If you’re not a fan of thick, creamy moisturisers, I’d suggest the CeraVe Moisturising Lotion instead. It contains pretty much the same ingredients, but the formula is much lighter.
STEP 5: Sunscreen
The CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen isn’t actually available in the UK so I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. I am pretty impressed that it still contains those ceramides that are in the other products on this list AND niacinamide too. However, I have heard mixed reviews about it so I would be tempted to switch this one out.
Since this is a mineral sunscreen, the main skin-protecting ingredients – titanium dioxide and zinc oxide – sit on the surface of the skin. This inevitably leads to a white cast that many might find undesirable.
If you’re looking for a moisturising, chemical sunscreen that leaves a minimal white cast, the COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream is my go-to. Given it’s low alcohol content and nourishing ingredients, It’s perfect for dry skin! To find out more, read my full review of this product here.
