2020 hasn’t given us much of an excuse to dress up. I’ll be honest, my jeans and shirts have, for the time being (and the foreseeable future), been swapped for joggers and baggy jumpers. Still, I’m always searching for ways to make it look like I’ve made an effort on my FaceTime chats or Zoom calls. A good pair of earrings, or an eye-catching necklace, can instantly elevate a whole outfit. So why not throw on a few chains or pendants here and there? If, like me, this lockdown has made you realise that your current jewellery collection desperately needs an update, then keep reading! Here are the 2021 jewellery trends you need to know!
Herringbone Necklaces

I’m usually a tiny, delicate chain kind of girl but I must say I’ve been converted by the pure elegance of the herringbone necklace. This looks seriously good in gold or silver, in fact, I’d make a case for getting both.
If you’re not a fan of pendants or if you tend to stay away from flashy jewellery then this is the perfect piece for you. It’s simple but still super chic and stylish.
Sterling Silver

Gold jewellery definitely ruled the fashion scene in 2020. And, as much as I love a good pair of gold hoops, I must admit that I’m slightly glad this trend has rolled back around. You really can’t go wrong with sterling silver – it tarnishes less than plated jewellery, it causes fewer skin reactions and it’s far more reasonably priced.
These heartbeat studs from Tada & Toy are my go-to for an understated look. The hand-drawn element provides a cute, abstract spin on the ‘traditional’ heart shape we’re all used to.
Baroque Pearls

Baroque pearls have been popular for centuries, so this is perhaps not a new trend. However, these misshapen gems are back with a vengeance in 2021. Gone are the days of the perfectly uniform, white ball – now we’re seeing pearls in all different shapes and colours.
Tada & Toy’s Kulfi collection features a stunning array of jewellery made with freshwater pearls. The true beauty of this stone is that, since they’re all natural, no two pearls will look alike!
Thick Chain Links

Macro chains were gaining traction in 2020, but in 2021 expect to see them everywhere. Chunky statement pieces add a great edge to any outfit and are surprisingly easy to style! Pair them with a monochromatic, collared shirt for a classic, refined look or a high-neck tank top for a more dressed-down, casual option.
These were big on the 2020 runway and can now be found in almost any online or high-street retail store. There are tonnes of affordable options out there so don’t be afraid to try this trend out!
Chunky Rings

Oversized, scene-stealing jewellery is all the rage right now (and rings are no exception). Whether they’re made from plastic or metal, statement pieces like the ones above are sure to add a maximalist touch to any outfit.
Keep your eye out for chunky dome, croissant and bubble rings. They’re simple but so striking when styled right. I love this one from Seol+Gold, it’s the perfect piece for starting your capsule jewellery collection.
Wondering how to wear these rings? Try stacking them or layering them with a thinner band for a classic, timeless look.
Mismatched Earrings

Fret not if buying more jewellery isn’t in your budget at the moment, you can always freshen up your look by mixing and matching the earrings that you already have. Hoops, studs or threaders are all perfect for this trend, but remember that each side should work in harmony with the other. Try picking earrings which share a common material or colour – these will compliment each other best.
Alternatively, you can buy earring sets which are deliberately mismatched. These are great if you’re confused about which styles go well together, or if you simply can’t find anything in your jewellery collection that matches.
Fun Floral Pieces

Ok, so floral jewellery has arguably always been in. For Spring 2021, however, it seems that we’re ditching the classic metal pendant in favour of something more vibrant and whimsical.
Enamel and resin were having a big moment last year and that’s not likely to change. These floral Monki hoops show just how – when paired with the right outfit – bright, playful jewellery can still be super cute and tasteful.
Which of these 2021 jewellery trends do you think you’ll try?
